Grants Approved For Potter County Projects

Recreation Funds Approved For County

County officials have been notified of three state grants being approved for local recreation projects.

Austin Dam Memorial Assn., a non-profit organization committed to preserving the history of the Austin Dam ruins and developing the Austin Dam Memorial Park, has been awarded $30,500. Funds will be used for a feasibility study of park expansion between the current pavilion and picnic area south to connect with Austin Borough.

A $49,500 grant has been approved for the Cherry Springs Working Forest Interpretive Trail. Funds will cover one mile of trail development, as well as drainage work and site improvement.

Southern Potter County Snowmobile Club has received $9,600 for the purchase of snow-grooming equipment for 80 miles of area snowmobile trails.

Other grants that will affect Potter County include an $81,700 allotment to the Pennsylvania Lumber Heritage Region and a $55,000 grant to the Pennsylvania Route 6 Heritage Corp.

These funds were generated by a portion of the state’s realty transfer tax, the Growing Greener I and II programs approved by voter referendum and the ATV/Snowmobile Fund. (Potter County Today)

I think it is better that they are spending some of the money on our county instead of it going into something in Philly or Pittsburgh. If you don't agree with where our tax money is being spent, it's a free country....write to your state representative.
