Medicare Open Enrollment Begins Saturday

Potter County Today
It’s time for people with Medicare to make sure their current plan still meets their needs. Open enrollment begins on Nov. 15 and ends on Dec. 31. Counselors are available to answer questions, compare Medicare plans and enroll beneficiaries.

Those who don’t have prescription drug coverage can enroll in a plan. Some beneficiaries may see significant premium increases or changes if they stay in the same prescription drug plan in 2009. There are four ways to review and compare plans:

  • Call 1-800-633-4227 for help from a trained representative
  • Visit Compare costs, coverage and more. Get an estimate of your out-of-pocket costs for the year.
  • See the listing of plans in your Medicare & You handbook and information sent to you by your plan.
  • Talk with local experts at the Potter County Area Agency on Aging.

Potter County Area Agency on Aging counselors will be available to answer questions, compare Medicare plans and enroll beneficiaries as follows:

–Monday, Nov. 17, Austin United Methodist Church, 11 am to 1 pm (Aging Town Meeting and flu shots also available);

–Wednesday, Nov. 19, Virtual Incubator (formerly Tucker’s Store), Colesburg, 9 am to 3 pm;

–Friday, Nov. 21, Potter County Human Services Building, Roulette, 9 am to 3 pm;

–Monday, Nov. 24, Oswayo Valley Senior Center, 9 am to noon, free flu shots also available.

Medicare beneficiaries should bring their Medicare card, Medical Assistance (ACCESS) card, PACE or PACENET card, all insurance cards and a list of medications taken, including dosage. More information is available from Darcy Shutt and Susie Mainus at Potter County Human Services, (814) 544-7315 or 1-800-800-2560.
