Old RR Will Be Emporium To St. Marys Trail

Trail group buys Emporium to St. Marys railroad corridor
Courier Express
ST. MARYS - The rail corridor that runs from Emporium in Cameron County to St. Marys in Elk County has been transferred to the West Creek Recreational Trail Association, Inc.

The line had been operated by Allegheny and Eastern Railroad and Buffalo & Pittsburgh prior to that.

The association plans to use the land to create a rails-to-trails in the corridor for hiking, biking and other non-motorized activities in the summer and possibility snowmobiling in the winter, Cliff Clark, president of the association, said.

The trail will be 19 miles long and about 66-feet wide and run from the visitor's center in Emporium to near the Bavarian Hills Golf Course in St. Marys. More...

Will the State Police still be able to hide here when they set up their speed traps?

Wouldn't it be nice to have a trail from Coudersport to Port Allegany following the old railroad grade. What a attraction for tourists, bicyclists, and snomobilers in the wintertime.

Yes, I think these trails are wonderful. I just wish there was some way to allow us older folks to use our 4-wheelers to enjoy them.

The Pine Creek railtrail is a huge success. Why not look into feasibility of Port Allegheny to Coudersport & then it could continue up the Allegheny river toward Colesburg. Something for PCVA to mull over. CW

Biggest problem with the Port-Coudy Trail is the former powers let the bridge over the Allegany get taken out years ago!! It has taken a lot of hard work by the westend trailblazers and great landowner cooperation to maintain the trail we have now for the snowmobilers!! It would be great to have the old r/r grade opened back to everyone, but would take a ton of money to do so now.Easements were bought or claimed by adjoining landowners when the r/r abandoned the property. The replacement of the bridge over the Allegany on lower reed run would be the biggest obstacle.Of course,we spend billions on Iraq and still pay top dollar for oil,so what's a $200,000 bridge!?
