Ann Watkins McCarthy, 64, Belfast, NY

Belfast, NY--Ann Watkins McCarthy, 64, of Belfast, NY, died Sunday, December 7, 2008 in the Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville, NY.

Born December 16, 1943, in Wellsville, NY, she was the daughter of Wilbur and Margaret Mulford Watkins. She was married to Earl T. McCarthy, who predeceased her in 2004.

A graduate of Wellsville High School and the secretarial program at Alfred State College, she was employed by the IRS in Buffalo, NY for several years. In recent years, she was the Belfast tax collector.

Ann was a member of the Belfast United Methodist Church and served as a Methodist lay speaker. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Buffalo, serving as Regent and holding state and national positions. She was a supporter of the activities of the Belfast Lions Club, where her husband was a member.

Surviving are: her mother, Margaret Watkins Wagner of Wellsville, NY; a brother, Barry (Diana) Watkins of Owego, NY; two nephews, Eric Watkins of New Milford, PA and Chad Watkins of San Diego, CA; a step-daughter, Lynne (William) Fish of Apex, NC; a step-granddaughter, Hannah (Adam) Cole of Cary, NC; a step-brother, Rev. Ralph O. (Susan) Wagner of Wellsville, NY; and a step-sister-in-law, Carolyn Wagner of Ulysses.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her father, Wilbur Watkins, her step-father, Wilbur A. Wagner, and a step-brother, James A. Wagner.

A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, December 12, 2008 in the Belfast United Methodist Church, 2 Chapel Street, Belfast, NY. The Rev. David J. Cooke will officiate. Burial will be in Bath National Cemetery, Bath, NY at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Olney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ulysses, PA.
