If You Can't Say Something Nice, Don't Say It

A Commentor Observes:

There is such ignorance and negativeness in the "comments" sections of these news items on Solomon Words. If anybody was forming an impression of Potter County based on this forum they would think we were a bunch of petty, ignorant, infighting, smallminded hill billies.

Amen---We Welcome Your Positive Comments

I agree with these sentiments. I don't know what the writer was commenting on in particular, but if people really care about this county's future they need to tone down the negative...I'm all for healthy, lively debate and that's good too, but remember you're creating an impression of people in the area whether you comment positively or negatively. Happy Holidays to all.
Potter County Is Truly "GOD'S Country--Thanks For Your Positive Comment

I hate to break it to everyone, but our reputation as "hillbillies," "ridgerunners" and "rednecks" isn't from this site or anywhere else on the Internet. This reputation is and has been EARNED for years in our communities in bars, stores, gas stations, in the woods, on the streams, etc. It's from the way we interact with "flatlanders" and "mupears" and "city slickers." The way we treat folks from outside Potter County has earned us this reputation. The way they act in return has earned them their reputation and nicknames too. It's a two way street.

HILLBILLIES....We prefer the name REDNECKS!!! Hillbillies is clearly the name for the guys down in virginia, West Virginia, that area. who cares about negative comments. its what "Stirs the Turd." Im sure alot of people that read this site enjoy being able to argue with eachother over little things. i get a kick out of it. so next time you call us anything please call us REDNECKS...

Thanks

Maybe there just happens to be alot of ignorance and negativeness going around lately. Wall Street, Detroit, resession, and massive layoffs cause everyone to be negative. Handing out our hard earned tax dollars to the same idiots that caused the mess is just plain ignorance! This is not unique to us Potter County Hillbillies!

Atta boy Wallie! It is those of us that actually know the people we are dealing with that can and will speak the truth. What is the saying about the kitchen and not being able to take the heat????

NEVER MESS WITH THE HOMEGROWNS! WE LIKE IT JUST THE WAY IT IS.

Thanks previous commenter. you see the person who posted the comment the first time. is not telling the truth. because there is no truth on this subject. this site is nothing but opinions. that commenter never even posted his name. because he knows he will lose this debate with us so called "Small Minded Hillbillies" so commenter. where are you from? What is your name? what do you call yourself? "A FlatLander."? "A City Slicker.?" My Point is that who cares about positive or negative comments. either way people do it to voice thier opinion. just like you did. negative or postive either way its going to get put on the site. there are restrictions on this site. the admin wont put up profainty. so he is filtering it. so the next time you want to post. post your name and ur location. because by the sounds of it you arent even close to this area.
thanks

Everyone knows how many negative comments there are on this site. its a wonderful site. people outta make alot more like this. its for constructive critizism. this is one of the best sites ive been on. most sites wont let you debate and argue on them. but the admin knows as well the negative comments that go around. if negative comments bothered him he wouldnt post them. everyone is aware of the negativity of this site. and you think you have to come on here and post some negative comments of your own. that the way to put it... the only way to build your name is by reputation. the flatlanders are just jealous of our down to earth laid back attitude. that says "we dont give a crap about any political and governmental bull-@%$#. thats the wall to put it. one redneck could scrap with 10 flatlanders in a bar and win the fight. "99% of the world says Oh Crap before driving into a ditch, the other .1% (which is Potter County says) " Hold on and watch this &#!@." thats Us alright.

If by "ignorance and negativeness" you are referring to anyone who is pro-business, pro-drilling, pro-land owner rights, pro-windmills and pro-growth, then I guess I am ignorant and negative.

On the other hand, I think that some of you who are anti EVERYTHING except tourism are just a bunch of pot head, tree hugger, hippies left over from the sixties, but at least you're intelligent and positive.

The reputation comes from spending a little time in the majority of the establishments in and around Potter County. I have lived in the area my whole life but had to move away because of work. It will ALWAYS be home to me but when I come back now to visit..... WOW, can I see a lot that I didn't when I was there living it. It is constant soap opera in that area, small minded people talking about other peoples problems because it makes them forget about their pathetic lives. It is really sad actually. It will always be my home, and I have made some of the best friends in my life here, but I don't forsee me going back to the small town backwoods mentality now that I have see things in a different light. Sometimes you have to step out of the forest to to see the trees...........

I lived my high school years in Potter County and then left for college and the military. I have spent my time in other state with big cities and even seen other countries and the only thing I could think about when my 8 years of military service was done was coming back to Potter County. There may not be high paying jobs or shopping centers here, but there is no traffic and i don't have to worry about getting mugged when i come out of Sheetz or having policemen shooting drug dealers in my backyard. I would rather listen to the small town soap opera than the police and ambulance sirens all night....every night.

DannyB.... there are a lot of places to live in this country where you don't hear what you are mentioning. I live 17 miles from a huge city and never hear a siren unless a house is on fire. AND, I don't have to put up w/ the small town attitudes even though I live in a town significantly smaller than Coudy.

I agree...I'm not saying that Potter County is the best place in the world to be, but everywhere you go there are going to be positives and negatives. Everyone has their own opinion and are entitled to it.
