Shinglehouse, PA---Marie L. Brown Stout, 88, of Shinglehouse, PA, died Tuesday, December 9, 2008 in Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, PA after a short illness.

Born January 12, 1920 in Buffalo, NY, she was a daughter of Ross and Daisy Schillemore Lefler.

On November 30, 1940 in East Aurora, NY, she married Lawrence J. Brown, who died on June 1, 1963. On February 2, 1974 in Shinglehouse, PA, she married Leo H. Stout, who survives.

She was a 1938 graduate of East Aurora High School in East Aurora, NY. Mrs. Stout was one of the original employees of Fisher-Price Toys in East Aurora. She later worked at the former First National Bank in Shinglehouse, PA and afterward was employed at Manufactures Hanover Bank in Olean, NY until her retirement in 1982.

She was a member of the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church and the Mary Martha class of the church. She was a member and former Noble Grand of the former Minnehaha Rebekah Lodge in Shinglehouse. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved to bake and solve crossword puzzles. The Christmas season was her favorite time of year. Mrs. Stout loved being with her family and friends, most especially her dear husband of 34 years, Leo.

Surviving besides her husband are a son, Thomas L. (Brenda) Brown of Youngsville, PA; a daughter, Lucinda M. “Cindy” (Pete) Espersen of Holly Springs, NC; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and first husband, Mrs. Stout was predeceased by two brothers, George R. Lefler and Edward R. Lefler.

Friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA where funeral services will be held on Friday, December 12, 2008 at 11 am. The Rev. Daniel P. Grimes, pastor of the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church and the Rev. Randall W. Headley, pastor of the Port Allegany United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church, PO Box 296, Shinglehouse, PA.
