Maurice H. Gavitt, 75, Genesee, PA

Maurice H. Gavitt, 75, of Genesee, PA, died Friday, December 12, 2008 in his home.

Born March 18, 1933, in Shinglehouse, PA, he was the son of George and Mildred Crum Gavitt.

On April 22, 1961, in Wellsville, NY, he married the former Joyce A. Porter, who predeceased him on June 6, 2007.

A Korean War Veteran, he served honorably with the US Air Force from 1951 – 1959. Maurice was employed by ABB Air Preheater in Wellsville, NY for 35 years. He was a member of the Hickox Union Church and the Wellsville VFW.

Surviving are: four children, Debera (John) Stilson of Gold, PA, Jack (Penny) Gavitt of Coudersport, PA, Pamela (John) Polen of Harrison Valley, PA, and Fred (Kris) Gavitt of Dallas, TX; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Eleanor Stephans of Orlando, FL and Virginia Gavitt of Wellsville. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Earl Gavitt; and a sister, Audrey Dash.

A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 20, 2008 in the Hickox Union Church, with the Rev. Mel Ternes officiating. Military Rites will be accorded by members of the Potter County Honor Guard. Burial will be Genesee Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hickox Union Church, Genesee, PA 16923 or a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to the Olney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ulysses, PA.
