Medicare Meetings Continue This Week

Informational meetings are scheduled throughout Potter County to help consumers determine if their current Medicare plan still meets their needs. Open enrollment continues until Dec. 31. Potter County Area Agency on Aging counselors are available to answer questions, compare Medicare plans and enroll beneficiaries.

Those who don’t have prescription drug coverage can enroll in a plan. Some beneficiaries may see significant premium increases or changes if they stay in the same prescription drug plan in 2009. There are four ways to review and compare plans:

  1. Call 1-800-633-4227 for help from a trained representative
  2. Visit http://www.medicare.gov. Compare costs, coverage and more. Get an estimate of your out-of-pocket costs for the year.
  3. See the listing of plans in your Medicare & You handbook and information sent to you by your plan.
  4. Talk with local experts at the Potter County Area Agency on Aging.

Counselors will be available to assist around the county as follows:

  • Tuesday, Dec. 9, Oswayo Valley Senior Center, 11am to 2 pm
  • Wednesday, Dec. 10, Potter County Human Services, Roulette, 9 am to 3 pm
  • Thursday, Dec. 11, Genesee Library, 11 am to 2 pm
  • Wednesday, Dec. 17, Ulysses Senior Center, 11 am to 2 pm; Ulysses Library, 1-3 pm

Beneficiaries should bring their Medicare card, Medical Assistance (ACCESS) card, PACE or PACENET card, all insurance cards and a list of medications taken, including dosage. More information is available from Darcy Shutt and Susie Mainus at Potter County Human Services, (814) 544-7315 or 1-800-800-2560.
