Milford Appointed Deputy Warden At County Jail

Deputy Potter County Jail Warden Named

potterjailAngela Milford, a veteran employee of the Potter County Jail, has been named deputy warden of the facility. She has been serving as assistant deputy warden and began her career at the jail as a guard.

Milford succeeds Bob Patinka, who retired as deputy warden earlier this year. Her hiring was recommended by Sheriff Ken Sauley, who also serves as jail warden, and unanimously approved by the Potter County Board of Commissioners at Wednesday’s year-end business meeting. Her salary, as unanimously approved by the Salary Board on Wednesday, will be $32,500, with an increase to $35,000 upon successful completion of a six-month probationary period. Salary Board members are Commissioners Doug Morley, Susan Kefover and Paul Heimel, along with County Treasurer Krista Miller.

The assistant deputy warden position that Milford currently occupies will be eliminated and replaced with a jail secretary/clerk position, also approved by the Salary Board on Wednesday, at an hourly rate of $8.40 per union contract.

Earlier this year, the Potter County Jail was found to be in 100 percent compliance with state standards for a second consecutive two-year inspection period. Potter County Today

Pretty cheap wages for such important posts don't you think?

Cheap. Very cheap. The new millenium hasn't hit Potter County as of yet.

The responsiblity she will have is worth double that.. I bet the commisioners are making way more than that.. Are their wages made public?

A female running the jail! Great changes are on the horizon! Good luck. You have earned and very much deserve the new title.

I am a in a similar postion and make almost twice that! I don't even have as much responsibility as she does!!! Time for the county comissioners to look at this I beleve!!!

If she was promoted from being assistant deputy warden to being deputy warden, she probably got a nice raise to make the next step, right?
The sheriff is the warden, right?
Times are tough so why should the taxpayers have to pay the freight to bump her salary WAY up just because YOU make more than that working somewhere else?
How much of a raise should she get -- 50 percent? 75 percent? 100 percent?

All I was saying is that I guess that a job that requires a huge amount of responsibility and being on call 24/7...we as taxpayers are getting off cheaply. She has done a great job as assistant, I was just very shocked that the salary was what is was. So I guess we should be thankful that we are paying the folks at the jail so little for keeping the miscreants off of the streets.

I would rather pay more taxes and KNOW that it's going to her salary than to feed the commissioners greedy pockets. Angie deserves a much larger increase than the $2,500/annual raise she is getting.

Whoa! Did the commissioners vote themselves a raise?!? Where was that news report?

Solomon's words for the wise said...

Potter County Commissioner Paul Heimel replies:

No.

In 2007, Commissioners Wingo, Torok and Bowers held a legally required meeting during which they voted to approve 2-percent annual salary increases for the Commissioners, Treasurer, Register/Recorder, Prothonotary/Clerk of Courts, Auditors and Sheriff/Jail Warden.

Those 2-percent raises were effective for 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. They cannot be altered and no one has attempted to alter them.

Under the Pennsylvania County Code, the current Board of Commissioners must meet before the end of 2010 and set the salaries for the same offices as listed above for the 2012-15 term.

Are the commisioners salary's a public matter? If not they should be..

The whole jail system in Potter County is a real joke!!!
It;s a baby sitting service. They have too many employees now, and you want us taxpayers to give out raises to babysitters. Change the whole buch of them. One is a deputy during the day and then an unfit cop at night. What a joke!!
