Fatal Crash in Tioga County
Mansfield-based state police say that weather was likely a factor in a fatal crash early this morning on Route 14 about a half mile north of the Shanty Hollow Road in Union Township. Authorities say 64 year old Leland Dewert of Elmira was headed south when his GMC Envoy went out of control while negotiating a right curve on the snow covered road. The vehicle slid off the road and slammed into a tree on the driver’s side. One lane of traffic on Route 14 was closed to traffic for about three hours following the 2:00 a.m. crash.

Slippery Roads Blamed for Monday Night Accident
A Turtlepoint teen suffered minor injuries in a weather-related crash late last night on the Rock Run Road in Annin Township McKean County. Troopers said 19 year old Samantha Austin lost control of her eastbound Chevy Cavalier on the ice and snow covered road just before midnight. The car slid off the road into a ditch and rolled over onto its roof.

Injuries reported for Several Teens
Several teens were hurt in a collision Saturday afternoon on the two-mile road in Liberty Township, McKean County. State police said the collision occurred when a 17 year old female driver from Mt. Jewett tried to bring her 2002 Ford Focus back onto the road and the compact fishtailed striking an eastbound Pontiac Sunfire driven by 18 year old Caitlin Miles of Port Allegany.

Driver Injured While Swerving to Avoid Collision
A downstate driver refused treatment for minor injuries he suffered in a weather-related crash Sunday afternoon on Route 6 in Pike Township, Potter County. Troopers said Matthew Donahue steered his eastbound Chevrolet Silverado off the south side of the road to avoid a car which had slid out of control on the slush covered and was crossing into his lane. The pick up went off the road into a snow-covered grass area and traveled 165 feet before hitting a 12 in. diameter pine tree where it came to rest. State police said Donahue will not be charged in connection to the crash but the driver of the other vehicle which caused Donahue to swerve off the road will be charged with failing to drive at a safe speed but did not release her name.

Roulette Man Charged with Harassment
Brett Kaple of Roulette has been charged with harassment for an incident allegedly taking place Sunday night on Horseshoe Court Drive in the village. Troopers claim during an argument, Kaple hit a 27 year old woman in the back of the head with a fist. Charges are being filed in District Court.

I would just like to point out the article about the MVA on Two Mile Road involving 5 people is somewhat incorrect. The were no passengers in the Pontiac Sunfire and it did not end up in the field. The Sunfire remained on the road where it was hit and the other vehicle landed in the field. There was only the driver in the Sunfire. The 4 teenagers - 3 females and one male - were all in the other vehicle. The two on the driver's side were injured and the two on the passenger side were not.
