Potter County Commissioners Set To Adopt "No Tax Increase" Budget For 2009

$7 Million Budget Would

Keep Tax at 12.3 Mills

A preliminary version of Potter County’s operating budget for 2009 is available for public review and comment at the Commissioners Office, located in the F. W. Gunzburger County Office Building. The commissioners have scheduled adoption of the budget during a public meeting to be held on Dec. 31.

Anticipated expenditures in 2009 are approximately $7,036,000. Under the plan, the commissioners would hold the real estate tax rate at 12.3 mills.

No decision has been made on whether to move forward on a $350,000 loan which has been discussed by the commissioners to replenish the county’s capital improvement fund. That fund was depleted by renovation of a former county-owned group home on the Maple View lot for Wireless 911/Emergency Management services.

Holding the line on taxes is an impressive feat for these three county commissioners. Kudos on your efforts in this time of economic turmoil.

Holding the line is what I expected them to do. If they really wanted to impress me, they would have announced they were cutting the budget and giving us all a tax break. The majority of the county residents have seen their incomes shrink over the past few years and I would have like to see the county budget do the same.

Wait, JMHO. How does one shrink the county budget when everything else is in a downfall? Be blessed that taxes WILL NOT be raised. I am sick of folks lambasting these three commissioners. Have you nothing better to do?

Are you serious? They shrink the county budget the same way I have shrunk mine over the past year. One cuts out all the fat and perks and survives on the bare essentials. One doesn't hire companies to do expensive "studies" then throw the results out the door and go their own way. I never said they are doing a terrible job, it's just that there is LOTS of room for improvement. If you are truly "blessed" with the team not raising property taxes, one could only assume you own little to no real estate in the county.

Good job Commissioners on not raising taxes! Given the present economic conditions for the nation, state, and county I'm very impressed.

Guess you could all ways invest it in the tourism business.
Set up a stand and sell "SGC" or "Star Gazer" or "Clean Green Energy" Tee Shirts for all the out-of-towners to purchase from you...you'll be rich!
