STATE POLICE COMMERCIAL VEHICLE ENFORCEMENT EFFORT NETS NEARLY 400 VIOLATORS IN ONE DAY

C.R.A.S.H. Teams Inspect Commercial Vehicles on Non-Interstate Pennsylvania Roads

HARRISBURG – The State Police issued 382 citations during a one-day enforcement detail that focused on inspecting commercial vehicles along rural roads and non-interstate highways in Pennsylvania, Commissioner Frank E. Pawlowski reported today.

The Commercial Motor Vehicle Commonwealth Rural Roads and State Highways detail, or C.R.A.S.H., was conducted Nov. 25 by members of state police motor carrier enforcement teams.

Pawlowski said the citations included 246 written for commercial vehicle defects and 114 for driver violations. In addition, 91 commercial vehicles and 21 commercial vehicle drivers were pulled out of service for violations.

“Data from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration indicate that close to 75 percent of fatal big truck crashes and more than 70 percent of all crashes involving commercial motor vehicles take place on non-interstate roads,” Pawlowski said.

Lt. Raymond J. Cook, commander of the state police Commercial Vehicle Safety Section, said the department will conduct similar enforcement details during 2009.

Good deal! I'm glad to see the crackdown. As a sidenote, maybe it's time for the PUC to get some of these gas well water trucks on the scales.

Just what we need....everyone is worrying about their jobs and the truckers are taking a hit and losing theirs.

That's about the dumbest comment I've ever read on the internet. Be glad that unqualified and unsafe drivers and trucks are being taken off the road.

Sometimes it isn't tyhe truckers fault that the company they work for over;oads or doesn't maintain the truck they use. Just remember....all of the goods that each and every one of you consume are delivered by the truckking industry in one way or another. I think the truckers do a fine job considering the amount of idiotic automobile driveers that are on the road.

"it's time for the PUC to get some of these gas well water trucks on the scales."

This shows how much you know about the department of transportation.

The P.U.C. has nothing to do with highway safety other than the enforcement of insurance coverage if you own P.U.C. rights to haul specific goods.

Federal and State D.O.T. are to handle the highway safety.
