Virginia A. Holden

PORT ALLEGANY- Virginia A. Holden, 94, passed away Sunday (Dec. 27, 2008) in Agawam, MA.

Born Aug. 29, 1914, in Port Allegany, she was a daughter of John J. and Alice E. Clark Hanlon. On July 6, 1935, in Port Allegany, she married Jackson R. Holden, who died July 30, 1987. They were married 52 years.

Mrs. Holden graduated from the Port Allegany High School, Class of 1932. She attended business school at Westbrook Commercial Academy, and worked as a typist, before her marriage.

Surviving are two sons, Elton J. (Marion) Holden of Longmeadow, MA, Joel D. (Ann) Holden of St. Helena Island, SC, a foster son, Eugene Ford of Troutsdale, OR; four daughters, Sally P. (Robert) Butler of Millersville, PA, Susan L. (Kenneth) Krech of Charlton, MA, Jacquelyn (Rick) Zimmerman of Stamford, CT, Lynn L. Laino of Springfield, MA, nine grandchildren: Jeff, Greg, Kevin, Kim, Kai, Ginger, Katie, Michael, and Jeff; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley A. (Carlton) Larson and a sister-in-law, Peg (Menfred) Tenglund, both of Port Allegany, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jackson, a daughter, Mary Holden, and two sisters, Exilda Hanlon and Marjorie Zlobec.

She leaves behind many beautiful memories for her family and friends.

Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday (Jan. 2, 2009) with the Rev. Thomas J. Beam, pastor of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Port Allegany, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.
