Chris Houghtaling Is On Way Home From Israel

MISSING FOR 3 YEARS
It's A Miracle!
Chris Houghtaling
Calls Home!!

Hi Jim,

I have some great news you might want to post on your blog.

This morning my father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tim and Midge Houghtaling, recieved a call from the US Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Their son, Chris Houghtaling, had walked into the embassy and asked for help getting home.

It has been almost three years since Chris flew to Israel and no one had heard anything from him since. His family has searched relentlessy for these past three years and his parents have even made two trips to Israel.

Well I am so happy to announce that tonight he is on a plane home and his parents will be picking him up at the airport tomorrow morning. We are all just bursting with excitement to see him and we are so grateful to know he is safe.
Thanks,

Wow, I am so happy he is safe.

That's great. I wonder why he would just just disappear like that?

This is just the most wonderful news. His parents and family have prayed relentlessly and his homecoming is proof that God does answer prayers ( in his time not ours). 2009 life begins anew for the family. God asks us to have faith and they did~~! AMEN:)

This is excellent. This should be national news! It seems like a novel.

This is an absolute answer from God to the prayers of many, many people in the Coudersport Community! Thank you Jesus!

Best to Tim and Midge. All our prayers are answered. Truly a miracle. God bless you forever.

Yeah that is great news for his family, I know that have drove themselves nuts with worry over this guy.

BUT.

He CHOSE to leave the USA, and he CHOSE not to contact anyone in his family, even his own MOTHER.

Why would you put your family through all that??? all the time and money that was spent by his family, our government, his friends and countless other people, WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT????

If I was his mother, I would hug him to death and then beat the crap out of him for it.

this is indeed representative of the power of prayer and the dedication of a loving mother and father.

i could not be happier for this family.

We are definately going to Hug first and ask questions later!
Sometimes people get confused and have a hard time finding their way back on the right path. For whatever reason he did this, we have decided to forgive him not judge him. Thanks to everyone who prayed and everyone who contributed to the Chris fund. After we pay for his plane ticket and reimburse the US Embassy, the Chris fund will be making a donation to the Christmas House.

Response:
And if this were your child?? What would you ever do ?

I think some are rushing to judgement here. No one has no idea what happened while he was there. The middle east is not a safe place for anyone at this time. Just happy to hear he is on his way home!!!!

This is fantastic news. 2009 is going to be a great year. I look forward to seeing Chris and am very happy for his family. Cannot wait to say welcome home Chris!

Why would you say that? Can't you just be happy for him and his family? People have their own reasons for doing the things that they do even if we do not understand it at the time. He did what he wanted!!
Glad you are safe Chris!! Welcome home!!

You cannot judge one persons reason expecially the Love of a Mother and a Father and a true family. I have been without a family member for several years as well and God has blessed us with him in our lives again. No one needs to judge or ask questions, just love.

""""Response:

My Response::

I told you what I would do...

and I am not bashing anyone. I am just curious along with a lot of people, I mean things like this dont happen everyday.

If people dont ask questions, people dont learn how to prevent things like this happening..

Thats nice that he finally decided to come home.

But honestly what he put his family throught that was pathetic! All that money they spend looking for him. He should have just let them know what he was going to do.

So yeah i would hug him to death to when he got home and then i would demand an explaination.

i feel bad for his family because of everything they went through but its hard to feel bad for him because he chose to go over there and he chose to put his family through all that pain and aggrivation.

It's great to hear that a family is getting a member home safe and sound, but being that he made the decision to leave, stay there with no contact, then decide to come home, I don't think God had much to do with it. I wouldn't call this a miracle. It was a few conscious decisions by what appears to be an irresponsible young man.

I am so happy Chris is going to be home with his family. The what if's, the assumptions and the worry is over. I agree with Midge, sometimes we take a path that is not one expected. If we look at a Biblical example, Jesus did the same thing but for a shorter period of time. His parents were also worried but overjoyed when they found him. The Middle East is dangerous and has been for a long time. So it is even a happier moment knowing Chris is safe! My family Welcome's you home Chris, I know your family is overjoyed that you are home! God bless you and thank you for answered prayers.

A mother and Father's love. Not one parent should question how they handle the situation. I'm sure in the future there will be many heart wrenching times to deal with. This family can now rest knowing where Chris is and not spend the rest of their life wondering.

I don't know this young man, nor his family. I wish them all well, and I do believe God had alot to do with it. I also believe that he is the only one that can judge.

does anyone know what time his flight was arriving today and will this reunion be recorded from anyone

Anonymous said...

He must have left because of the windmills. Morley & Hiemel said no to the windmills so he's coming back.

Anonymous said...

anyone know if they have been reunited yet

Congratulations to Tim & Midge. Living in Fl the last 6 years I didn't even know he was missing. I wish you all the best.

I just spoke with Midge, Chris has been delayed in Newark but will arrive in Buffalo this afternoon. We have waited this long, what's a few more hours. Thanks to everyone for their kind words. We are just so grateful. Lot's of questions, but all in good time.

thanks for the update and hopefully the weather does not keep delaying the reunion.

This is terrific news! Welcome back Chris!

I was overjoyed to see that Chris is coming home from his long journey. His grandmother, parents & all of his family have had their prayers answered. I can't wait to hear that he has actually arrived safely to Dingman Run and has given his grandmother a big hug. I also hope Chris & his family will continue to share news about his journey & return. First of all this is a very happy blog for a family that has had their prayers answered, what in the world is wrong with you?

Secondly Doug & Paul did not vote "no" they voted for more stringent regulations than are needed, news flash, THE TURBINES ARE COMING TO POTTER COUNTY!
Our township leaders have seen to that!

I'm glad He's finally coming home, and wow, what a story he must have.

Here's a thought. What if Chris left to 'find himself'. What if he went there to see the sites and had some type of spiritual awakening and wanted to learn more. I mean the what ifs could go on and on and on. People do this sort of thing EVERY day. I do feel for their family because they were worried sick trying to find him. I just don't think he wanted to be found. It wasn't uncommon for him to wonder off to go hiking or camping just to get away. Yes, going into a country that is a war zone was a little extreme though I admit.

I don't think he should be criticized for anything he's done. The responses that start out 'if it were me'.. it wasn't you, do you remember where he worked, did you notice him while he was at work and saw him? Did you know what shoes he wore (half the time till they fell apart :P), what he usually wore every day, or what car he drove? Seriously NOW you want to notice him, when in fact you never knew he existed before he left.

Never judge unless you've been there. No one knows what was going through his head but him. And frankly I would LOVE to sit and listen to him tell of life over there. He was a great person and I'm sure still very much is, and to the family, my deepest heart filled hug and congratulations that your son is coming home.

PS the windmill comment.. you're a moron.

Thank God he is coming home. Let this family work together as a family to resolve whatever issues remain. None of us know the facts, so we shouldn't judge.

Waht is important is that this family has found its much loved son. In a world of war, poverty, and crisis of all kinds, it is great to hear some good news for a change. Welcome home, Chris!

any word on his arrival

Anonymous said...

ditto on the comment above about the initial windmill comment. You're definitely a moron.

Chris coming home is extremely good news and serious. Chris and his family deserve privacy too. Making any negative judgments on this topic in this forum is pretty thoughtless, if not moronic as well.

Welcome back!

Any news on if he's home yet? More than likely I'll be sitting here hitting refresh until there is word of his safe arrival. I'm so happy for them to finally have him home :)

I am a friend of the family and have heard that Chris is home and doing well. Please allow them some time catch up. I am sure someone will post more when the time is right. Just know that your thoughts, prayers and warm wishes are very appreciated.

First of all, please don't judge until you know the family!! It's not right for you to do that. I know Midge&Tim Houghtaling, and they are great people. They helped my family when we were looking for a place to live, they have understood our situations, when others wouldn't. If you don't know them, don't talk down upon their family. Go out and meet them, and I'm sure you will have a change of heart! They truly are great people and have been through alot, they need no questions asked, just heart warming hugs, and know that there really are kind people out there! I'm so happy that this family is complete all over again!!
