Smethport Teen Accused of Speeding on Snow-Covered Route 6
Two Smethport teens escaped injury in a one-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon on Route 6 near the Olmstead Road west of Coudersport in Eulalia Township. State police said a 17 year old male was traveling about 60 mph while headed west when his 2004 PT Cruiser went out of control on the snow-covered highway, fishtailed, spun 180 degrees off the road, struck an electric pole and took out a mailbox owned by Dale Anderson causing about $250 to the box and post. Both the driver and his 17 year old female passenger were wearing seatbelts.

Illegally Parked SUV Causes Wreck
A Smethport driver is being cited for illegally parking on the roadway for a collision taking place at about 10:00 pm Friday on The East Valley Road in Keating Township. Troopers said 19 year old Terry Carlson had stopped his GMC Envoy in the northbound lane of the road, without any lights on. Cindy Kirkman, also of Smethport tried unsuccessfully to avoid striking the SUV with her Dodge Durango. After impact, the Durango spun counter clockwise off the road and into a ditch. Kirkman received minor injuries but declined treatment. Her passengers Ricky Tadder and a 9 year old boy along with Carlson and his passenger Lacie Gleason all escaped injury.

Two Hurt in Potter County Roll-Over
Moderate injuries were reported for a Coudersport man and his passenger following a one-vehicle crash Friday night on the Peet Brook Road in Allegany Township. State police said 19 year old Guy Spees was traveling too fast for conditions when his Buick Century spun 180 degrees counterclockwise after cresting a hill, went off the road, down an embankment and overturned one and a half times before coming to rest in an adjacent field. Spees and Crystal Cook, 20, also of Coudersport were taken to Charles Cole Hospital by Genesee Volunteer Ambulance.

Investigation into Snowmobile Thefts Continuing
State police are continuing their investigation into the recent theft of a couple of snowmobiles belonging to Richard Kallenborn of Port Allegany. Authorities say three known suspects arrived on Kallenborn’s property via bicycle. After hiding the bikes in the woods, the trio entered a garage and stole two snowmobiles, fleeing on Pine Grove Road. The sleds were later located by Coudersport-based state police. The thieves had tried unsuccessfully to start a third machine.

Police Investigate Recent Criminal Mischief Incidents
A couple of recent criminal mischiefs are under state police investigation. Sometime since December 28, someone smashed a small window at a camp on Wilson Avenue, a half mile east of Route 155 in Liberty Township. More news...
