Penelec Workers Save Kitten In Galeton

Galeton Heroes

By Christa Buechler
Galeton PA

They say cats have nine lives...not when it comes to 7200 volts of electricity.

HUGE thanks to Russ Hall & Rich Smith of Penelec for reminding us that in this world of war, greed, selfishness and sorrow, there are indeed those true heroes who go beyond the limits and risk their own lives to save others...including our fur babies.

Our kitten, Lewis, spent more than ten hours atop the electric pole in front of our home Saturday. Day turned to night, the snow picked up in intensity and Lewis was becoming weaker with each passing hour.

After much coaxing, crying and failed attempts to find help, we were directed by 911 (Thanks Nikki ) to contact Penelec. Due to the heavy snow storm along with power outages across the area, we were certainly not expecting a crew to take time out for a cat stuck on a pole, although our hopes remained high.

The Penelec crew of two arrived around 10:30 p.m. last Saturday night (January 10th), assessed the situation and without hesitation rescued our Lewis.

Had Lewis climbed a few more inches higher, he would have been electrocuted by 7200 volts of electricity.

"Thank you" just doesn't seem to cut it...but we are forever grateful and will never forget the selfless act by these two men.

Wow! There are really good people left in this world of ours. How wonderful for these men to take time on a cold night to help a kitty! Hats off to them and Penelec for letting them come there.
