Potter County Education Council Schedule

ESU ~ Discipline in the Classroom – Act 48 Approved

East Stroudsburg University Continuing Professional Education will sponsor the Act 48

approved course Discipline in the Classroom with instructor Joe Martin at the Potter County

Education Council in Coudersport This program is designed for participants to take part in

learning activities that will enable them to develop positive techniques for handling student

behavior problems. This course is aimed at training teachers to use Reality Therapy as a tool in the classroom. It addresses one of the major concerns of the public school’s classroom control and behavior change. This course is approved for 3 graduate credits. Classes will be held on Friday evenings and all day Saturday beginning February 27 with subsequent classes February 28, March 27 & 28 and May 1 & 2. Beginning Beekeeping ~ Short Course

The Potter County Education Council will hold a Beginning Beekeeping Course at the Coudersport Office. If you are concerned about the destiny of the honeybees and want to help or are looking to improve your flowers, vegetables and fruit, then this course will get you started in the right direction and help you achieve whatever your goals may be. This course will offer the basics from understanding the life of the honeybee colony, hive equipment and tools, to successful management techniques for honey and colony survival. The first class will be held on Saturday, January 31 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Two other classes will follow on March 7 and March 28. The cost for the course will be $40 per person. Beginner Beading Class

The Potter County Education Council will hold a Beginner Beading Class at the Port Allegany Office. Participants will learn proper techniques for stringing, crimping, and attaching clasps. Bring Tools if you have them: crimpers, rosary or needle nose pliers, and nippers. NO KITS: select beads reflecting your personal style. This class will be held on Wednesday, February 21 from 6 – 8 p.m. The cost for the class will be $25 per person.

Beer Making 101

Cure the Winter Blues! Learn to make your own beer! The Potter County Education Council will hold a Beer Making Class at the Northern Tier Growers Facility in Colesburg. Home brewing is easy, and you will find the fruits of your labor will match or exceed commercial brews in taste and quality. Participants will learn about equipment, ingredients, fermentation, sanitation, and the brewing process itself. The class will focus on beginning and intermediate brewing, including a history of brewing, beer types, and local brewing history. A batch of beer will be brewed during the course. The cost for this three week course will be $70 per person and the first class will be Tuesday, February 3 with following classes to be held February 10 and 17. Photography Workshop

The Potter County Education Council will hold a Photography Workshop at the Coudersport Office. Curt Weinhold’s two-hour class is designed to simplify technical confusion. And if you plan to buy a digital camera soon, this class will help you become an educated buyer. Each of us has different camera needs. Buy what fits the budget and your requirements! Learn camera systems, lens choices, memory cards and how to best download camera data into a computer. Bring your questions and get answers. ServSafe Food Safety Course

The Potter County Education Council will hold a ServSafe Course at the Port Allegany Office.

ServSafe is a 15-hour certification program developed by the Restaurant Association Education Foundation. The course meets certification requirements for individuals who are responsible for the safe handling of food in restaurants, schools, eldercare facilities, lodges, bed & breakfasts, community centers, and other food concessions (organizations or businesses that sell or prepare food on a regular basis). The two-part class will be held on February 5 and 19 from 9 am – 5 p.m. The cost for the course will be $180 per person for a new certification and $65 per person for a recertification. Skinning Workshop

The Potter County Education Council will hold a Skinning Workshop at the Port Allegany Office. Bill Ford and Henry Rinamon are following up their Canine Trapping and Trap Setting Workshops with “how to skin your game”. Participants will learn safe animal handling and proper skinning techniques. Information on traps and purchasing equipment will also be available. Bring your trapping questions, share your latest predator story, and find out more about this fascinating sport.
