Wish List For PennDot Projects In Potter County

Rt. 6 Paving & Bridge On ‘Stimulus’ List

eandgUpdated Jan. 19, 2009--Sections of U.S. Route 6 in Coudersport would be resurfaced and a new bridge would be built on Route 6 over the Genesee branch of Pine Creek in Hector Township if federal funds that are anticipated from the “economic stimulus plan” materialize later this year.

PennDOT has released a list of those highway and bridge projects identified as priorities. The Potter County projects had already emerged from a ranking system dating back several years, working through Northcentral Pa. Regional Planning and Development Commission.

Resurfacing of Rt. 6 from the Chestnut Street Bridge west toward “Cemetery Curve” would cost about $4.6 million. Similar work on Rt. 6 east from the Mike Franklin Bridge to the Rt. 872 intersection at Ladona has an estimated price tag of $3 million. In each case, the highway would be resurfaced, with berms restored and drainage improved.

The new Route 6 bridge would be built over the Genesee Branch of Pine Creek in Hector Township, at a cost of about $1.1 million.

PennDOT pointed out that federal funds are not a sure thing: “The size of the initiative, distribution methodology, and special requirements that may be attached, as well as how quickly projects must be advanced, have yet to be identified . . . Our focus has been to develop a candidate list of projects consistent with our ongoing emphasis on system preservation (to) address Pennsylvania’s bridge deficiencies, pavement needs and safety concerns.”

The economic stimulus bill will also contain aviation funding. “We are waiting for guidance from the Federal Aviation Administration FAA before attempting to suggest candidate projects,” PennDOT said. Potter County Today

It would be nice to finish what they started, when the rest of that stretch between Port and Coudy was done. By the time they do the Coudy portion, the rest will need re-done.

I would rather see our roads and bridges made safe(although I believe it could probably done more cheaply, maybe not), than see the crooks and CEO's on wall street get the billions of dollars that Bush help secure for them. I will promise I did not vote for Obama or McCain.

"1.1 million dollars for a 40 foot long bridge?????"

Is this amount a bid from a construction company or the state workers doing the repairs and replacements? If we are using construction companies to save the state money then why do our local state employees constantly have benefits cut?

Seems to me an awful lot of construction compaines charge out landish prices and look what we as tax payers get...

Just like school buildings that leak before they are even finished, ring a bell? No Po and Wellsboro schools both got shabby work done for a very very high price tag...

Red tape is what it is...If the state would allow local contractors to do local work it would help our local economy and you bet if they lived in the tax paying district they would care and take pride in the work that the tax payers are paying for because they are a tax payer in the same district!

"bush supportin retard." Very nice. You added nothing to the discussion but a few unsubstanciated accusations. Here are a few "facts", 2% of the population pays greater than 80% of the tax revenue. The remaining 20% is paid by you, me (assuming you work), and our co-workers out there in the jobs market. Not too shabby. In some economic circles, the roles would be reversed and 85% of your paycheck would be taken away, not 35% as it is now (on average). I prefer the Fair Tax system supported by Huckabee, but that would do away with the income tax system thus it will never pass.

And yes, I voted for Reagan, Bush I, Bush II, and McCain. Do not worry tho, you will not meet me on the street, I am turtling up, venturing out only to gather food, and go to work. Enjoy your new "Change you can beleive in."

Right there with ya on that one!

Would do away with to many Federal employees...sounds like a plan to me, smaller government. With any luck this will be part of the "Change" we are about to receive, although I doubt it :(

The only thing that is changing is the lineup of crooks that our money goes to in the government.

The government is not smart enough to see what we all saw coming in this bail out!

Little or no accountability for the first round of money so what did they do?

They aquired other troubled companies along with their assets and guess what they are even bigger now...will go back for more money with thier hand out because, "you have to help us again because we are bigger and more of a danger to the economy if WE go under"!

Got ya Uncle Sam and you were too stupid to see it coming?!
Ya right!
