School Bus Involved In East Smethport Crash

BREAKING NEWS:8:09am-1-9-09
Smethport Fire Police and an ambulance unit have been sent to a two vehicle accident on Route 6 in East Smethport involving a car and a school bus.

The school bus is reported to have no students on board.

I drove by this and the bus appeared to have damage to the passenger side of the bus..The other veicle was sitting slightly over a bank in someones front yard..There didn't appear to be anyone hurt..Use caution today the roads are very greasy..

Why is it that school buses don't have seat belts for the children? It doesn't seem right....some of those children legally should be in a car seat or booster seat, yet you can put them on a bus without even a seat belt!!

I agree, and I think there's been controvesy on the seatbelt issue for years. I too agree there needs to be seatbelts on buses.

There are no seatbelts on school busses because...

-the districts would have to raise taxes to offset the cost to the district to make the kids safe (how dare they find another way to do the right thing!)
-lawmakers are too busy giving themselves late-night pay raises to care about making this mandatory.

It's kind of odd...the children don't use seatbelts. Yet, correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't the driver have/use one??? Lap belts would be better than nothing!
