UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION CLAIMS CAN BE FILED ONLINE ON MARTIN LUTHER KING HOLIDAY

UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION
New Telephone Filing Process to Start When
Lines Reopen on Jan. 20

HARRISBURG – Labor & Industry acting Secretary Sandi Vito today reminded out-of-work Pennsylvanians that they can still file claims for unemployment compensation benefits online on Monday, Jan. 19, when state offices will be closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The online initial claim filing process is available 24-hours a day at www.dli.state.pa.us.

When the telephone claims system – 1-888-313-7284 — reopens on Tuesday, Jan. 20, individuals are advised to call on specific days, based on their Social Security number. People with a Social Security number ending in an even number should call on Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday; while those ending with an odd number should call on Monday, Wednesday or Friday.

With the exception of the Jan. 19 holiday, expanded telephone claims hours are Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

“Asking individuals who use the toll-free phone line to call on different days based on their Social Security number will help to alleviate waiting times and allow us to serve claimants more efficiently,” Vito said. “The best time to call is later in the week and late in the day. It is important for people to realize that phoning in their initial claim later in the week will not delay their benefits. And, for greatest convenience, claimants can file at any time by using our online system.”
