"Can You Hear Me Now?" In Shinglehouse

Verizon accessory provides cell phone service in Shinglehouse through the internet, but only in a 5,000 square foot area.

Welcome to the Network Extender product support webpage. This page contains answers to the most frequently asked support questions, troubleshooting information, and links to the current version of the User Manual and Quick Start Guide FAQs

I bought a Verizon extender for my house here in Shinglehouse and it actually works. I have 4 bars on my cell phone at all times!

I guess that's Verizons cheap way of getting out of putting in a tower. Especially when the extender costs 250 bucks.

I live in Shinglehouse where my phone was constantly "searching for service". I now have 4 bars and have been texting like crazy the last couple of days. When my brother comes here, he has 4 bars too. You have to have a fast internet connection, modem or dsl. What Verizon doesn't tell you is you have to have a router also. But YES. It actually works!

Yes, I have Time Warner Cable Modem and a Linksys router.

i asked verizon about the extender and they told me that i was in a white zone..(whitney creek rd) and the extender wouldnt work

this should work with any high speed internet no? I mean not simply limited to shinglehouse...anywhere "near" cell phone service?

i had heard of these and was curious myself.

my big question centers around whether or not other users would benefit from my extender or not.

for example, if three or four people all spaced 2 houses away on Honeoye Street each had one of these would it create a "hot" area for cell phones? if it did, you could bet your sweet bippy i would be negotiating with my neighbors to see if we could split the costs and place the unit in an area where we could all grab the signal!

i just called verizon,should have it monday 265$ !!!

I still have signal outside my house, but I haven't tested it to see how far away I can go yet. All Verizon phones can use it, but only 3 cell phones at one time, with a lines reserved for 911. You can configure it to make your cell and 2 others priority. (Actually, up to 50 numbers.) Meaning, if 3 other people got signal from my extender, and I used my phone, then one of theirs would drop.
I can already picture a bunch of kids hanging on my front porch this summer!

We live near Hebron and my husband bought one several years ago - not the verizon brand; cost approx. $200. It works if you stand right next to it but if you wander around the house, you will lose your connection.

This is nice....we pay for Verizon Cell service that doesn't exist in most of the area and now we need to buy another piece of equipment to plug into our internet service that we already pay to make them work in our homes. I have a set of 5.8 GhZ cordless phones that reach up to 150 feet from my house. How far is the range on this thing? Personally, I'll stick with using my home phone when I'm home instead of my cell. This is actually making more money for verizon because you will now be using the internet for the phone calls which doesn't cost verizon any bandwidth time on the towers.

I would rather have cell service and drop Frontier. Can't take land line on a trip with me.

The Verizon wireless store on East State street in Olean carries these. I checked and they are sold out until the weekend. The guy there said he can't keep them in stock.

You would want to drop Frontier? You don't want to keep that wonderful service! Personally, I like paying more than anyone else in the area for my home phone.

I heard that Verizon is interested in putting a tower in Shinglehouse and the Borough council is for it. Frontier apparently is coming to the meetings, raising hell and doing what they can to delay it. That's just what I heard, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Move to Civilization where there are lots of cell towers and lots of different cell providers.

may i ask what the heck the white zone means??

Anonymous said...

The white zone is the real dead zone that they have in the commercials. even with verizon coverage there are still real dead zones. If you see a verizon coverage map they have the covered areas in red and no coverage areas are white. A good part of Potter and Tioga counties are in those white areas. We have the extender and yes it gives us service and possibly up to 5000 sq feet but have not had service three times now once do to extender and twice do to the cell service having issues. They are trying to clear up these bugs but... who knows for now we keep our landline but cut down the service we have with it and use our cell phones when possible.

What, pray tell, is your definition of "Civilization"? Wait, let me guess, it's where you live, isn't it? Aren't you just special. So urbane, so refined, the world is at your fingertips!

Now why don't you go and finish your double latte mocha frappachino and bother someone else.

I just bought one at the Verizon store in Olean. Had it hooked up in 15 minutes. I went from nothing to 4 bars instantly. I can't wait to tell Frontier to pound sand!

Hey,all you cellphone people. The county is putting up a tower on Fuller Hill on Blauvelt Hollow. So you can tell verizon or who ever they can put thier stuff on that tower.

Concerning the fair money, why would anyone who has worked with the general public take from something like the fair?

"why would anyone who has worked with the general public take from something like the fair?"...

Because they can...sounds to me like they were unaudited books? Makes all of us that donate wonder, guess that will not be the case this year until someone looks into this matter and lets the citizens of Potter County know just what the heck is going on!
