Commissioners Give 3% Raises To Coroner & Jury Commissioners

During a public hearing on Wednesday night, the Potter County Board of Commissioners set the salaries of the County Coroner and County Jury Commissioners for the four-year term that begins in 2010.

By unanimous vote, the commissioners approved annual three-percent increases for the positions, taking effect next year. Potter County Coroner Kevin Dusenbury is paid $18,398, while Jury Commissioners Dean Dow and Norma Cobb Nichols are each paid $6,687.

Under the County Code, the commissioners were required to set the salaries for the years 2010 through 2013 this year, since it is an election year for each of the three positions.

the Board of Commissioners are amazing.
what was wrong with saying "sorry, not now". how could they consider giving out raises. the economy is terrible. all forms of goverment in this wonderful commonwealth are pleading poverty. they're already crying out for tax increases.
why should the tax payer stuggle through tough times and not elected officials. I didn't receive a cost of living increase in my salary. I never have.
If their salary was not enough, then get a part time job and quit stressing the tax payer!

These are already part-time jobs serving you.
The Commissioners did not increase County taxes for this year.
Did you go to the meeting and speak your mind last evening?

OH SHUT UP... I'D LIKE TO SEE YOU GO OUT & PRONOUNCE DEAD A YOUNG TEENAGER THAT HAS JUST BEEN HIT & KILLED BY A DRUNK DRIVER... OR MAYBE THAT LITTLE GIRL THAT WAS BEATEN TO DEATH BY A BABYSITTER.. OR HOW ABOUT THE 40 YEAR OLD MOTHER, WIFE, DAUGHTER THAT DROWNED IN A LAKE?? COULD YOU DO IT FOR 18K A YEAR??? KEVIN IS NOT PAID NEAR ENOUGH FOR THE JOB HE DOES AND DOES WELL... CAN YOU IMAGINE HIS MENTAL STATUS AFTER A NIGHT OF PRONOUNCING SOMEONE DEAD THAT WAS TAKEN FROM US WAY TOO SOON?? COULD YOU DO IT?? A JOB LIKE THIS COULD NEVER BE PAID ENOUGH IN MONEY.

sure it can.
18000 tax payer dollars

To poster #1, I feel bad for you that you have never gotten a cost of living raise at your job, maybe you should find a different employer or better yet why don't you run for one of these positions. Sounds like you have all the answers. And as others have stated our county taxes were NOT raised this year. If people would think first before they post on this site maybe there wouldn't be all the negative stuff we see every day. God be with us all and help us see the good in the world he has given us.

I agree with the poster who pointed out some of the difficult jobs the coroner has to do. Let Kevin take you with him for a week, to the scene of the recents youths who were taken so young. I could not imagine having to do that. When you can go around and examine dead bodies-see if 18,000 is enough.

relax. don't tell people to shut up. it's not nice. this person has a right to voice his opinion, as you do. let's keep it civil. relax.

he chose to accept this position.
he knew what it involved.
why isn't 18k, part time, not enough?

wow! people sure get excited on this blog, don't they?

yeah, another fine reason for people to live here.... more morons per square mile than you can shake a stick at.... gotta love it

Anonymous said...

great! taxes weren't increased.
but were they lowered?

Anonymous said...

We should feel lucky that this is a part not full time job. Because I'm sure in philly or pitt it is full time.Oh and this is why us morons live here. It is a little bit safer, maybe a little underdeveloped in some areas, but we still seem to get by. Just remember how us morons dealt with the resent tragic losses in the past weeks. Please let us think before we talk.

let's make popcorn.

ditto on Kurt's remarks.

regardless of what the comments on this blog look like from time to time, we have many less morons per square mile than other parts of the country...maybe just a highly percentage more with computers and internet access.

Has anyone been watching the economy? It is the worst it has been since the 80' and people are loosing their jobs everywhere. This is not the time to be giving public officials a raise, no matter who they are. Anyone should be a little grateful that they are keeping a job, instead of asking for more.

How many of the people that are pronounced dead wind up as customers of the Coroner. Go to the courthouse and do some checking. Yes, I do believe our Commissioners have no common sense. With all the people that lost their jobs, the businesses that are closing, they have the nerve to give out raises. I bet there must be 100's of people willing to work at a lower wage. The Coroner also gets full benefits. That's another $13,000 to $15,000 per year. Please get your facts in order before you write. That way you won't sound so dumb.

Whatever...does that mean people out there working hard shouldn't be rewarded because other businesses are going over seas. Believe me my husbands job was eleminated because of a foreign company does that mean I shouldn't be rewarded or given a raise. I understand we as tax payers are paying the price but we as tax payers are buying foreign goods. Everything the tax buyers pay goes to someones income somewhere. Good job Commissioners and Kevin and the others you deserve it...anyone who is getting raises out there I for one am not jealous and I am happy for you. You choose your profession and you choose wisely.

i just love this blog.
i never realized how many brilliant
experts live in this area.
i am so grateful you live in our area, rather than live in Atlanta, New York City or D.C.
what would we do without you?

I think comments in poster #1 simply reflected concern with constant government spending.
some tax payers have lost confidence in government and when they see more spending, they get upset.
yes, the coroner does have a difficult job. I think we can all agree to that. I wouldn't want to do it, that's for sure.

all one can ask, is please be careful with our tax dollars and put those dollars to the best use possible for all concerned.
We voted for you because we trust you, okay? so don't let us down.

The 10:24 AM post today is way too constructive. Just kidding. I would like to see a lot more posts like that and wholeheartedly agree with his/her comments.

TAXES WEREN'T INCREASED BECAUSE THE LAST BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS LEFT THE COUNTY IN PRETTY GOOD SHAPE. GIVE THESE THREE A COUPLE MORE YEARS AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. HOW MUCH OF A RASIE THEY THEY GIVE THEMSELVES? KEVEN IS A GOOD MAN AND YES, HE KNEW WHAT PROFESSION HE WAS GOING IN TO FROM DAY ONE. SPECIAL PEOPLE FOR SPECIAL JOBS?

only doug knows for sure what will happen. he give the orders and the rest just fall in to line. even our other elected officials jump through his hoops. i work here - you would be absolutely astonished at what these 3 are up to! newspaper don must be jumping through hoops too - we all should have read about this long ago.
