Pennsylvania Soldier Killed In Action

Quakertown soldier killed in Iraq on Saturday

A Quakertown father of three was killed in action in Iraq Saturday.

Staff Sgt. Mark C. Baum, 32, a member of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard’s 56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, was killed during an attack in Mushada, Iraq.

Baum, who was a member of Detachment 1, Company B, 1-111th Infantry from Phoenixville, was struck by small arms fire after the quick-reaction force he was assigned to responded to an attack from an improvised explosive device around 5 a.m. He was airlifted to Baghdad and died around 10 a.m. No other soldiers were killed or injured during the incident.

He is survived by his wife, Heather, two daughters, Alexis, 6, and Kailey, 3, and a 7-month old son, Conrad, as well as his parents, Howard and Debra Baum.More...

My sincere appologies to the family of this brave soilder, i have two kids of my own and couldn't imagine what they would go through if they were to loose there father as well. I know he died for our FREEDOM and i hope he is truly remembered forever as a brave HERO.

My prayers go out to Sgt Baum's wife and family. I pray everynight for these soldiers overseas for there safety. I think many here have forgotten that are men are over there and are risking their life for our freedom. God Bless the Baum Family, like I said my thoughts and prayers are with you.
