Potter County District Attorney Dawn Fink Has Issued A press Release Regarding Prescription Drugs

PLEASE LOCK UP YOUR PRESCRIPTION DRUGS

An increased number of our teens and young adults in Potter County are abusing prescription drugs.

These typically include PAINKILLERS such as vicodin, oxycontin, percocet, dilaudid and fentanyl; SLEEPING/ANTI-ANXIETY MEDICATION such as ativan, valium, xanax, and AMPHETIMINES such as ritalin and dexedrine.

What many people don’t understand is that when these drugs are used recreationally, they are not taken in the prescribed amounts or even in the usual manner. For instance, kids are grinding up oxycontin and snorting it or sucking on fentanyl patches to get a more concentrated high.

Misuse of these prescription drugs can easily lead to addiction. When taken inappropriately, painkillers such vicodin and oxycontin can have the same effect on the brain as heroin!

Worse yet, abuse of these prescription drugs can even lead to death. Tragically, Potter County has lost several young adults to prescription drug overdoses in the last few years.

We can help to curb this destructive trend by keeping ALL PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS LOCKED UP.

Buy a padlock to place on your medicine cabinet or kitchen cupboard or purchase a small metal box with a lock. It’s best to keep them under lock and key at all times, even if you don’t have teens living with you.

Home break-ins are occurring in an effort to find these drugs.

Also, be sure to dispose of all unused prescriptions, even if you think that you may need them again “someday”.

I think if you catch somebody steal other peoples meds you should have a right to shot them on the spot.

I seen it happen, and i know of it happening in a area in pa. The guys were lucky to get away tho.

So let me get this in proper english

"I think if you get caught stealing other peoples meds, the victim should have the right to shoot the robber on the spot?"

Great idea i would go for it.

We should not have to live under lock and key in our own homes.

Children were tought manners when I was raised...you did not walk into someone elses house and just pick up the phone and use it without asking first. Now it seems like it is a damn free for all! No manners what so ever!

Good children and teens are abusing their parents drugs.
Maybe they even see their parents
abusing these drugs and alcohol.
We teach by our own actions but
just to be safe...lock up drugs.
Or take a few less yourself.
Nice kids try everything. It is
our responsibility to protect them.

I feel that I was a nice kid, brought up by good parents, but I tried things. Looking back at my life it was a lot of peer pressure which is still going on now a days. My problem was that I was friends with everyone and trying things was with the wrong friends and I learned my lesson. I am trying to teach my children that it is good to have a lot of friends, but you want to make sure you have the right friends that will not lead you down the wrong path.

The state of all of the prescription drugs in this country is out of hand. People think that a pill will cure everything for them, but most of it is in their mind. I don't take any prescription drugs unless I get something that requires an antibiotic. Pain is relative....if it can't be handled with Tylenol, then people just need to suck it up and quit whining.

lets go back to beating their asses like in yester year, i'll bet they would've looked over the good stuff for some simple aspirin.......oh thats right..it's considered child abuse now...i myself wouldn't have dared touch meds and if they weren't mine, well new laws and society, i guess i was abused as a kid...... ???

kids today are acting just as they are raised. you would be very surprised to know just who did what years ago. right from school teachers on up. of course they will not admit it - but i know!

I would not insult my kids by locking up the medicine cabinet, but it is a good idea to keep medications in a safe place where they can not be easily accessed.
Kids are under alot of pressure these days to fit in. Some of them unwittingly become providers just to make friends. Adults need to become more aware of what kids are using. Kids aren't really worse than they were when I was growing up, but adults most certainly are. Set a good example for your kids if you care about what they do.

if you take the prescription drugs the DA is talking about, whether you lock up your medicine cabinet or not, please keep them away from our youth.

They won't find mine ...

Hey Dawn, how about the criminal justice system "cracking down" on these prescription drug thieves? Put the onus on them, where it belongs, rather than law abiding folks.

Dawn Fink is only releasing this information to get some votes against Watson this fall.

I'm glad that someone is running against Fink this fall--this information on drug abuse should have been released a long time ago--not just before election time.

Let the Games begin said...

Let the games begin...I do not know about the rest of you hard working tax paying citizens of Potter County but I have just about had my fill of politicians AND County, State, and Federal positions paid by US!!

Never hear much news good or bad from most until it is time to protect their jobs...ya that sounds about right!

Anonymous said...

You are absolutely right, "Let the Games begin said...". Dawn Fink wormed her way in to the position and I will be happy to see her crawl out. Poor DA at her best!

If Watson will save the county $100,000 a year (since the state is screwing us), I will vote for Watson because that shows he cares about the county.
Will Fink agree to serve for $100,000 less if the state keeps screwing the county out of that reimbursement?
Lets have a statement on that one Dawn so we can compare!

Someone needs to get that statement in writing an get it notarized before the election so we can hold him to that. Lawyers are about as trustworthy as politicians.....

Has anybody ever thought that these thefts could be bogus, simply report a theft, just call the welfare office tell them and your
Doctor you are the victim of a theft then obtain another prescription, hmm i wonder???

Don't you people read the local papers? There have been several RECENT deaths due to increasingly dangerous drug misuse. I would hope if you had to look at a few dead teenagers and you had the authority to issue a press release, you wouldn't think twice. Sucking on morphine patches is a new and highly dangerous form of getting high and those that suggest it's merely a p.r. schmoozefest should be ashamed of themselves.
