This is not new news. Another "Thank you" should be issued to our goverment. Another pot they should have kept their hands out of. Another shot to America's backbone.

Maybe our county commissiones can pay out some more taypayer's money to STUDY this!

So at approxiamately 10lbs per gallon of milk, this comes out to 83 cents per gallon. He got $346 dollars for the month which figures out to 288.3 gallons of milk for the month? Their appeared to be around 20-30 head of cattle in the barn......that comes out to 9 gal. of milk per day. If his cows are producing that poorly, maybe he needs to find another profession.....or maybe they are showing the wrong numbers. The processor removes the fat, pasteurizes the milk, homogenizes thhe milk and bottles the milk and sells it at stores for $3.50 to $4 per gallon. Maybe it's not so much that the milk has a low price from the farm as that the feed is getting more expensive.

It is sickening how much work these farmers do for so little pay they'd would probably make out better going back to organic door to door milk delivery. I for one miss the "milk man".

A door to door milk man is a very good idea. Where do I sign up to get my delivery s! The government bailed out the big boys with the company jets that gave them self's bonuses, yet we can't help the back bone of our American heritage. Shame on them! We need to support our local dairy farmers!

keep watching and listening....I heard someone is going to start an organic (no hormones) dairy farm right around Coudersport, maybe even other dairy products, and hopefully sell the milk locally! I'll be his first customer.

You bet, I will drive to Coudy to pick up my order too!

It is illegal for a farm to sell organic milk without having it processed (pasteurized/homogenized).....this is why organic milk costs even more than what you pay for milk now....it is usually about 25% to 40% more per gallon.

Before you go buy organic milk, do your research. Milk is tested mutliple times before it ever reaches the consumer. If a farmer sends milk with any drugs or high bacteria counts in the milk--it is dumped at the plant and the farmer pays for it! If you are worried about hormones--buy BST free milk not organic--a lot cheaper! Look at the one farm in the county that is organic--not real pretty! There is a local farm that makes cheese from their milk.
Also, the price the farmer gets for his milk is less that it was 15 years ago.

We have 130 head of dairy cattle. We have seen first hand how screwed up the business is. It is a shame!!Thanks to those who do support the small family farmer. We don't do it for the money...we do it for the lifestyle. Close family connections.... it is just falling apart!!
