Luther Jack Mullen, 69, Eldred, PA

ELDRED, PA - Luther "Jack" Mullen, 69, of Slack Hollow went to be with our Father in heaven on Saturday (March 14, 2009) at Bradford Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

Born Oct. 6, 1939, in Clearfield, he was a son of Lloyd H. and Ella Mae Hubler Mullen. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Milton Barr.

Mr. Mullen was a 1959 graduate of Smethport High School and had resided on Slack Hollow since 1978. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the U.S. Army in aircraft maintenance.

He was employed by Clark Bros. in Olean, NY, Quaker State Refinery in Farmers Valley, Seneca Highlands Vocational-Technical School in Port Allegany and later retired from Ethan Allen Furniture Co. in Eldred. He had also been a bus driver for Todd Buses in Eldred.

Mr. Mullen was a member of the Slack Hollow Coffee Club, was an avid Buffalo Bills, Dale Earnhardt and NASCAR fan; employed making children's furniture and working on machinery, with a specialty in "revamping" equipment to make it work for him.

He also enjoyed being outside, hunting, fishing and working on vehicles including boats, trailers and tractors. In addition, he enjoyed building things and especially enjoyed spending time with his friends.

Surviving are three daughters, Teresa Williams of Turtlepoint, Vanessa (Ran) Scutt of Smethport and Melissa (Les) Gallup of Eldred; seven grandchildren, Lance (Musette) Mullen and Shane Mullen, Rona Scutt and Jenna Scutt, Alison Gallup, David Gallup and Whitney Gallup; two great-grandsons, Leo Mullen and Trenton Gallup; two sisters, Grace (Don) Barnard of Port Allegany and Patricia (Ernie) Long of Smethport; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Gloria Jean Mullen of Turtlepoint.

Friends my called at the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred, where a celebration of life was held Tuesday (March 17, 2009) The Rev. Allen Young, pastor of the East Smethport United Christian Church, officiated. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery, Farmers Valley.
