Potter County Commissioners Meet Thursday, March 12, 2009

Next meeting of the Potter County Board of Commissioners will be held at 11 am Thursday, March 12, at the F. W. Gunzburger County Office Building. These meetings are open to the public and comment on county business or related topics is welcome.

Among the items on the agenda for the March 12 meeting is a report from Melissa Gee, from the Mental Health Department at Potter County Human Services, and a final vote on the allotment of the county’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).

Water projects in Roulette Township and Ulysses Borough, along with handicapped accessibility improvements at the Coudersport Community Swimming Pool, have been chosen from among a handful of applications for a portion of the 2009 CDBG. Proposed spending is as follows:

  • $70,000 for water well improvements as part of the Ulysses Borough water protection and treatment plan, tied to a cover over the borough’s reservoir. The design is complete and ready to bid and Pa. Dept. of Environmental Protection (DEP) permits have been secured.

  • $60,000 for well improvements and additional chlorine treatment at the Roulette Township water system. Preliminary design is complete and a DEP permit secured.

  • $70,000 for improvements to the Coudersport Community Swimming Pool, providing greater handicapped accessibility and facility improvements. A consulting firm studied the pool and has recommended many improvements that are now being considered by Coudersport Borough and a volunteer citizens’ group.

Each year, the Redevelopment Authority assists the commissioners in administering the CDBG. The grant consists of federal dollars that are filtered through the state and must be used for economic development, community improvements, and other public projects in townships or boroughs where the majority of citizens are low- or moderate-income.

The commissioners’ meeting room is located to the immediate left just off the 1 North Main Street entrance of the Gunzburger Building. A brief meeting of the Salary Board will precede the Board of Commissioners meeting.
