I hardly think SNIPER is the correct term to use in the first news story (regardless of whether the state police or the reporter decided to use that term). The term sniper is usually used to describe sharpshooters - clearly not the case here.

Anonymous said...

Whether the term "sniper" was properly used or not, it's a scary thought to think that someone is out roaming around with a semi automatic rifle shooting wildly. There are some crazy people in this county!

Zachary said...

And how do you know it is a semi auto?

Anonymous said...

I agree "SNIPER" does not belong in that news story! Just trying to "HYPE" it up a little, poor choice of words by whomever.

Anonymous said...

THe word sniper has done its job, it is eye catching and the people complaining about it well it worked.

Anonymous said...

And how do you know it's a rifle?

Anonymous said...

I read about the rifle in yesterday's Bradford Era I believe.

Anonymous said...

The semiautomatic rifle came from a story below this one. Keep scrolling down and read.

I beleive that the original press
release referred to the crime as criminal mischief and nowhere did it use the term sniper.

Anonymous said...

Are you saying depending on what it is called it might not be as important of a crime?????

Anonymous said...

This is Potter County People theese rifle incedents have happened for years probably some young kids out messing around. what kind of semi auto was it a 22, 223,308 I mean a sniper wouldnt probably use a 22 so what caliber is it??

Anonymous said...

Who cares what caliber it was this is all just more proof of why new need to crack down on GUN CONTROL.

Anonymous said...

Criminal mischief is the damaging of tangible property owned by another. A sniper is usually a person who shoots at, wounds or kills another person. My point was somebody other than the original author of the press released added the word sniper. the caliber of the bullets found at the scene per the press release was 7.62X39mm . these are the facts nothing more nothing less.

Anonymous said...

All I want to know is did they hit what they were shooting at. sniper would have hit it in one shot not eight, pretty bad sniper!

Anonymous said...

"Someone is roaming around shooting wildly"
I think not.Sounds like they hit what they were shooting at.

If you folks spent half as much time finding out who did this as you do picking Gerri Miller apart for the word she picked to describe the shooter, we'd have this person in jail by now.

Anonymous said...

sensationalism and embellishment are not usually associated with Gerri Miller(my honest opinion)however her word choice in this case was off the mark, no pun intented. If this report was in the Potter Leader it would understandable. P.s. Gerri does a fine job

This may help you understand, there were eight spaced shots and eight lights taken out. The person opened the door of the truck and fired from within. Also word had it that a house received four shots. The next time the shooter maybe there for them. A lot of ammo was used in a twenty mile radius that night. Word has it that in one area over 40 rounds was fired. I do personally know of the eight shots and they were not from a 22.

"more proof of why new need to crack down on GUN CONTROL."...

What?

More gun control? How about "self-control", who in their right mind is out at the wee hours of the morning shooting up tax payers property? Not a hard working tax payer that has to get up and go to work in the morning!

People that break the law DO NOT live by or follow the laws, rules and or regulations...more gun control does not and will not stop idiots! Period!

The Supreme Court of the United States has ruled that citizens have the right too keep and bear arms. If we give up or lose those rights shame on us. We need to enforce the laws we have not make more. like Pa's law about loaded paintball guns in a vehicle. A law abiding citizen with a protection permit can have a loaded concealed
pistol, but not a paintball gun hmmm. there are jerks in all walks of life and its jerks like these late night shooters who spoil things for the honest gun owners. I am not a gun nut but I respect our constitutional right to own firearms

my gosh, you people will argue about anything on this site, won't you??!! I thought this was supposed to be a news site....now it's turned into a public griping session!!

Post 10:57 What are you doing? Griping.....don't read the posts, just read the news.

You know, Jim and Brad pick and choose whatever they want to post. Something like Gililand "not" endorsing a DA candidate and yet slants everything to point in "his" direction. I guess that's why you will never see his little rag on this site. He can dish it out but has no ba--- when it comes to taking it.

Anonymous said...

It is Jim's site, Start your own.

To Poster 11:49AM

Get real Jim and Brad are both extremely fair in posting anything and everything.

Anonymous said...

If It were my site, some of the posts I have put up wouldn't have made it.I think they are pretty fair!

Anonymous said...

Dear Anonymous(coward)My husband has no choice in what is posted on this site, so let's gets your facts straight. There have been times I responded to several things on this site that I know to be facts, but my father in law(Jim) did not post them. So as far as to say Jim may not always be fair and sometime picks and chooses what he wants to put on there, it's such mentality as yours that takes the entertainment out of the site. If you don't like what is posted simply don't be nosy and log on. You do have the option to start an anonymous site since you don't have the balls to post your name!!! Courtney Jones, wpb florida

Definitions of sniper on the Web:

a marksman who shoots at people from a concealed place
wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

So we can argue all day as to if the word sniper was used correctly however, did this person not shoot from a concealed place( his vehicle)!!!

Anonymous said...

to the last comment that is the dumbest thing i have ever heard you just said Definitions of sniper on the Web:a marksman who shoots at people from a concealed place then you go on to say he was concealed in his truck but what about shooting at people not stop lights from a concealed place
