Unemployed Get A Raise & Extension Of Benefits

More Benefits for Unemployed

HARRISBURG – Out-of-work Pennsylvanians now may be eligible for up to 13 more weeks of unemployment benefits and receive a $25 increase to their weekly compensation, Governor Ed Rendell said.

“Additional unemployment benefits could help keep families afloat during these difficult economic times,” Rendell said. “The extra safety net allows unemployed workers to continue to pay for food, shelter and other necessities until they are able to rejoin the workforce.”

All laid-off workers receiving unemployment benefits will get the additional $25 a week that was authorized in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act signed by President Obama last month. The payment will be made separately from claimants’ regular benefit payments.

People eligible for the additional 13 weeks of benefits will be notified by the Department of Labor & Industry with instructions on how to apply for the extended benefits.

Out-of-work Pennsylvanians may now be eligible to receive unemployment benefits for up to 72 weeks. Prior to the 13-week extension, unemployed Pennsylvanians could claim up to 59 weeks of benefits – 33 weeks of federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation benefits after their maximum 26 weeks of state benefits ran out.

Keep the unemployment coming but push out natural gas drilling. Hell of a mentality.

Good thing this is part of the stimulus Federal money because there are probable not enough businesses that are still up and running to keep paying in to the unemployment compensation fund!

Too many more shut down there will not be enough payroll's being paid out for the good ole UC-2 to be filed and paid!

"...until they are able to rejoin the workforce." WHAT WORKFORCE??? My husband has been unemployed for almost a year.....there are NO jobs to apply for! Two of my neighbors & a family member just got let go from Morgan AM & T after being there for over 20 years. Most of us have mortgages, our homes would never sell. What is going to become of of us??

Never fear, Ash 07 / 007 / H20 has all the answers with her cheerleading chants of "YES WE CAN"...getrdone Ash...Oh that is right you have not been a member of the working tax paying citizens like the rest of these people that have held these jobs for 20+ years, YET!

If you have not noticed the Dow is down once again, -122.42 (-1.65%)!
Guess the faith has not quit been restored!

Maybe we should all just send out our monthly bills with IOU's instead of checks, Obama printed "paper" to the tune of 1 trillion with nothing to back it's worth. We might just as well "change" how we pay our bills too!

IOU!!!
But you owe me a new job, and many mortgage payments. So, you can just take it out of what you owe me.

Unemployment is a necesssary evil and I feel that there are those that deserve it and don't abuse it. However, I also feel that the re are those that not only abuse it, but do so over and over again to the point that it is overtaxing the assistance that is offered. Lets face it, there are plenty of lazy ass people out there that are perfectly capable of working but refuse to get a job even when they are available. Regarding the comments of no jobs... There are jobs. I se them posted every day within a commutable distance from Coudersport. You just have to be willing to do something that my be "beneath" you and will probably be less than what you are used to bringing in after 20 years at Morgan AM&T. Tough times call for tough measures... Suck it up and take what you can get and quit sucking the public teet....

How ignorant you all are...I quit reading comments on this blog but this one i had to read. My husband just lost his job due to jobs going out of our country which means out of our county. You have no freak'n idea how awful it feels when you will be collecting unemployment and the jobs available don't pay as much as your job did or what you will collect on unemployment....Remember ....people owe money and can't sell things because no body is buying. Have you seen the housing market? Give me a break the unemployment alone is a lot less for my husband and our family will be struggling to keep up on our bills so you hard working people won't have to fit my bills...remember we have over 20 yrs working to loose our jobs. I can't stand the people who comment on this ...where is that... your neighbor cares about you....disguisting ....you should all be ashamed...and remember it could happen to you....I will NOT put you down I will be one of the Potter County people who would reach out to you....to you sad souls.

After 20 years of working in a job, it seems like you would have the sense to have some sort of savibngs and if not, then you were living beyond your means. Times are tough....tighten your belt and take that job at McDonalds....

Sounds like worked for 20 years to pay their morgage, raise their kids and try to save some along the way, just like the rest of us!

I used to work for Adelphia, I used to make an assload of money, I used to live beyond my means... I collected unemployment for 2 weeks, tightened the belt, took a crappy job at a lower payscale, do sidework on my days off when I can, and am getting by as best as possible... Living off my heard earned money when you could do the same is not the answer... Unemployement is designed to hold you through until you can get another job... It is not meant to support your whining lazy ass until the job you want comes your way or until it runs out and then you have nothing and have to whine about not getting an extension... A year on my purse strings is wayyyyy to long... GET A DAMN JOB...

Sorry to disappoint you but unless you own a business, have a payroll and file a UC-2 quarterly...it is NOT your purse strings!
