Wellness Fair Held For County Employees

garykelseyfootAn “Employee Wellness Fair” was held Tuesday afternoon in the gymnasium of the F. W. Gunzburger County Office Building. A variety of vendors were on hand to provide resources for healthy choices. Here, Potter County Register & Recorder Gary Kelsey enjoys the stress-relief offered by a foot massage.

Employees from Human Services, the Gunzburger Building, the courthouse and auxiliary county offices are participating. An Employee Wellness Committee formed by the Potter County Commissioners planned the Wellness Fair and many other activities to improve employees’ well-being.

Studies show that a healthier workforce results in greater work productivity and reduced health insurance claims.

Another project of the committee is a “Biggest Loser” weight-loss contest, which starts March 30. Almost 50 employees have signed up. Co-chairmen are Gary Kelsey and John Hetrick.

kelsey needs to get out on the beach and tan those hooves up.

and i agree, i wish all companies could provide this for employees.
keep up the good work.

Yes, I do agree that Potter County should be the Biggest Losers! Of course you know, commissioner Kefover can and will pray your pounds away.

Come on pansies, if you need someone to tell you how to get fit then it is poor you. Exercise, eating healthy and what ever else it takes but do it on your own time.

Don't underestimate the power of those prayers.

I wish Susan would pray for me as well if she sees this. I am trying to quit smoking and need all the prayers I can get. WAY to go Jim by telling it like it is. If more people would pray maybe this world would improve. By the way I have to say Gary has some pretty nice feet.......

sounds like there is a few jealous people out there.

Anonymous said...

if susan actually did say that, is it possible that she meant she prays when she feels cravings or urges to eat rather than giving in and pigging out?

some people take things so literally sometimes...

Who paid for this stuff. Probably the same people looking for work. It's like the banks sending ceos to spas on the peoples money. i want a massage to but i can't afford one.

I want to thank the committee that put this on. I do not think there was money spent to pay the people who put up the booths. If this makes people more productive and means less medical claims for insurance what is wrong with that. Its nice to see county employs being treated like human being's for once. This was a good event and its depressing when people write things on here always putting everything down all the time.

How about the wages the County pays these people to get their feet rubbed? Check out the hard working factory, contruction workers, etc. see how many have this benefit. Amazing, you wonder why government officials are looked down on.

Anonymous said...

Are you saying Gary and the other county officials dont work hard because they dont stand in a factory or build houses?

Amazing is right...!

Amazing that anyone with even half a brain would want to hold an elected office around here and deal with the narrow minded mentality of some of our so called "citizens!"

Anonymous said...

OH MY, poster at 5:40, you said it all! County officials don't work hard because the don't stand in a factory or build houses. Yes, they certainly do not need a foot rub, they are on their butts all day.

Anonymous said...

I think you all seem to have missed the point. Happy, healthy employees are productive employees!

Anonymous said...

No I understand the point just fine, but the 3/19 7:37 poster is the one the needs to wake up! A typical hater that think they not only know better, but that they also know everything. That kind of comment is the rule and no longer just the exception here.

Anonymous said...

No, YOU don't understand the point! You just do selective posting. No hate involved here....just common sense. We employees have been bummed out for the past year. A few hours of fun time on your money makes a big difference. Doesn't impress us any more with the upper crust, but at least we got paid for it. It was something like getting paid to attend the county picnic last year. Ask the union reps about this?

Poster @ 11:01

You work for the county and you're a liar. How dare you get something started on here because you have a bone to pick. County employee's did not get paid to attended a picnic. You guys want me to start posting the names of those that would make this lie up......try me!

I think this Wellness program is a great idea and hope that more employers will consider similar programs. Like the poster above said happy healthy employees are productive employees. This goes across the board whether you work in a factory or at the county. I have worked for the county previously and there are a lot of things I did not like but this program is a keeper! I really do not understand all the negativity above, is it a jealousy thing? Why don't you take that energy and turn it into something positive by going to your employer and asking for a similar program? All the major insurance companies are getting on board with this because they hope that it will save them money in the long run with fewer claims for illness and injuries if the policy holders are fit and healthy. Sounds like a win-win for all.

Sounds like the officer in the Sheriff's office and the Union gals are getting a little freaked out on this picnic thing. I was called and told to attend and would get $25. So was that just an incentive or a payoff? I honestly needed the money and since it was union money, hell why not. Of course, there were those who didn't get a call to remind them and never knew about the bonus! I'm not and never will be intimated by you!!!!!

As a county employee and union member I can see you are all getting a little confused on what "picnic" we are talking about. I'm not quite sure why you are trying to air it out on a posting about a wellness fair! People please!! You might want to get all of your facts straight before you go posting crap on here. You may be able to hide your name but your ignorance shows through.

Anonymous said...

First of all, there was no $25.00 incentive for any picnic...get your facts straight before posting! Union picnics and county picnics are totally different things...jeesh!...you people are ridiculous.

Anonymous said...

Go ahead and ask the gals involved with the union and ask what happened I am sure they will not be afraid to tell the truth since someone cannot get their story straight,if you want to run your mouth about the union picnic last year go ahead and post your name while you are at it. don't be a coward.

For the county employee who was at this picnic you sure have all the facts wrong, you must of been one of the fine upstanding individuals who signed nasty letters to the union reps and sent registered mail to their homes and DID NOT attend the picnic or you would know that this was a union picnic not a county picnic is was however a picnic for the union members and as I recall after the picnic a certain group of people treated the union reps very nasty and disrespectful accusing them of issues that did not even happen so think next time get your facts straight as you were way off, the gift to all union members who attended the picnic was a 50.00 gift card as a gift from the union. I would truley love to start naming names of the group that started the issues because they did not attend and I also believe there was a flyer sent to each union member inviting them to the picnic so you all knew what was going on. Hats off to the union reps they did a wonderful job and continue to do so and I had a great time at the picnic sorry you did not make it.

Boo who union president. State your name so the truth comes out and why are you on solomens on county time. Carefull who you name as I was at the picnic and it is true a handfull of people were told about he $50 gift they would get if they went. Get the truth out, you won't be there for long.

Anonymous said...

To everyone reading this that isn't a county employee the $50 gift card was from our union dues. Yes, there were several who didn't receive the personal phone call....that is the truth...plain and simple. This money didn't come from tax payers it came out of our union dues and should have been shared equally and voted on! The ones who didn't receive the gift card felt it was only fair to receive what the other union members received since it was their money that was being spent. It was held in a closed meeting and they had every right to question it and get answers which they didn't. If you feel you need to let the public know who they are be prepared because the union members will make other matters public as well. These are comments made behind closed doors to union members only! Amazing nothing stays behind closed doors in this county. I attended the meeting and the members who questioned the spending asked good questions. Mistakes were made and hopefully all learned from it and next time all members will be notified. It was a union picnic with union money who happen to work for the county. I can't believe you actually threatened the union members by releasing their names....hummm makes you wonder why they are pointing the finger.

Back to the article at hand. I can say I am thrilled we have Commissioners who actually care about their workers and are trying to make a difference as human beings. If this makes our county workers work better....money well spent. Can't you people ever see the good in things and not always the bad....read the comments nothing ever nice! I personally work for a boss who treats me as a human being and generally cares about his workers and in return we try very hard to make him look good which makes us work harder. For goodness sake quit being so bitter and loosen your panties and enjoy life as huamns!

These comments just go to show the court or rather the annex now needs to be turn up side down and shook.

Anonymous said...

I cannot believe this issue is still continuing. GET A LIFE!!!!! There are more important things to be worrying about. What is done is done. I am a women and I would much rather work with a group of men rather than these ladies who cannot let $50 go and GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!!! It is another embarassment to this county that a bunch of grown ladies are fighting over $50 and sending harassing letters. How about we start acting professional and just do our jobs.

Anonymous said...

Blogger 6:41 - They are not all at the courthouse or annex. Try the EMA office as well!

Anonymous said...

truth is the majority of union members complained only to have the BIG DOGS call in head union people to fight their battle why they CRIED in the corner. even tried to get the press to print something and that backfired on the union reps. come on people admit to a mistake and do better next time. no wonder this county is a mess; too many people looking out only for themselves. at least the commissioners are trying to bring unity back among the employees but they need everyone's support not the feuds in the background by those who think they have a little power.

Anonymous said...

To the last comment - are you sure you know exactly who called in the press because I think you are mistaken and would be surprised to find out the true reason they were there. If I remember correctly from that last meeting the threats weren't coming from the people standing in the front of the room. I didn't get the $50 and quite frankly wouldn't have attended anyway due to a prior engagement. Are you that hard up for $50 that you have to hit below the belt? You talk about unity but from your posting it doesn't seem like your quite ready yourself. You get hand outs every holiday suck it up and get over it. Can we please bury this issue and keep the comments for the article at hand?
