Assistant Fire Chief Phelps Updates Ladona Fire

Thanks for getting out this important information; it’s a great way for our communities to be aware of what’s going on.

Coudersport Dept. (48) was dispatched @ 0428 am for a possible electrical fire @ 519 East Second Street, at the intersection with North Hollow Road.

Upon my arrival found one of the upstairs apartment renters, (Rane Gola), outside stating there was smoke in the building that he had jumped from his rear 2nd floor apartment window to safety.

A walk around of the complex(3 -2nd floor apt’s, 4 business’ on the first floor) revealed nothing showing from the A, B sides but heavy smoke from C, D side with approx. 8-10 mph winds blowing NE.

When asked if the other tenants were home he stated yes but they were not out yet, a second alarm was requested (depts... Austin 44, Roulette 46, Galeton 10 w/1eng. For RIT) reporting the entrapment.

Prior to the engines arrival the tenant from the second apt fell down the stairs, Gola assisted myself in removing the burnt victim(Dean Mathison) to the fresh air, @ this time a request for a medivac helicopter and ALS, BLS were placed to county control.

Eng.48-2 laid 1200’ of 5” supply line from a hydrant to the address, eng crews went quickly to work attacking the fire and ventilating the building, while eng.48-1 reported to the B side and Tower 48-9 took A side beside eng.48-2.

Dept.46 (Roulette) reported to the scene to assist w/attack-ventilation while Dept. 44 (Austin) laid a secondary water supply line South on Rt. 872 (700’) to the reservoir next to Coudersport well drilling to supply engine 46-2.

Due to the quick finding of the fire and extinguishing it, that supply line was not charged. The fire was called under control by 0515am, all units were in quarters by 0730am.

CVAA and medic 6 tended to Mr. Mathison and transported him to CCMH were he was in stable but critical condition prior to his flight to ECMC (Buffalo).

We were assisted at the scene by Coudersport PSP , CVAA and medic 6, Austin, Roulette, Galeton, and Coudersport Boro police.

At the time of this post Mathison had just arrived @ ECMC and I was notified to call back in a couple of hours – lets be thinking about him.

The smoke alarms were activated and sounding (which woke Gola), his quick response to notify 9-1-1 allowed crews to respond and quickly douse the fire. The fire was contained to Mathisons’ apartment, minor smoke and suet damage to the other 2nd floor apartments, no damage to the 4 businesses down stairs.

Rt. 6 was closed for a period of time until the 5” supply line laid was picked up, sorry to the public for any inconveniences this may have caused.

Estimated damage @ $35,000, the owner is Harold “TOOTER” Randall of Coudersport.

Investigation by Chief 48( Andrew Dubots) and CDSPT Police Chief (Lee Gross) determined the fire to be accidental/electrical in nature.

Everyone did an “EXCELLENT JOB” @ this incident and worked very well together. THANKS.
Assistant Chief Bryan Phelps

Great job Guys, Glad to see the local departments working well together. All stations in potter county have been busy the last few weeks and this hopefully should help you all getting more numbers for each department.

"Getting more numbers"?

I think they mean volunteers.

Don't quite know what libelous accusations were made.

well that sure is a change about the libelous accusations...look at all the mud throwing that was going on when glassmire and the others said they were running for judge....something is fishy here solomon's words for the wise!!!!

Hummm... must be the poster at 10:40 was the one to make the statement that was NOT posted... Otherwise how do you know what was said or who it was about??? I certainly don't as there is only 2 ppl that really do... the author and Mr. Jones...

Last I knew this was Mr. Jones Blog and he can post what he feels is right or he can choose not to.

Dont like it make your own and then you can post what you want on it. Otherwise bugger off and let Mr. Jones run his blog...

The negative comments shouldn't be posted i agree. These volunteers volunteer there times and risk there lives to save the people and the town. Posting negative comments about them makes you all look like a bunch of A$$holes.

if you look at all the negative comments that have been made on here many of them are libelous accusations....what was said that was blocked doesn't not come close to comparing to things said about other people on here....and what was said is true!!!! it sounds like someone only posts negative comments about people he doesn't know or like....

IF you are so certain that your statements are "TRUE" provide the information that Mr. Jones asked for and MAN UP... otherwise STFU!!!!!

actually I am a transgender so there is no "manning up" for me!
