Credit Card Phone Scam Still Active Over Large Area

Clearfield Boro Police reported--
A possible phone scam was reported in which a man and woman reportedly called residents and asked for their credit card numbers. The caller tells the resident they could receive lower interest rates if they provide the numbers.

Residents are reminded not to provide account or personal information over the phone. In both incidents, the caller hung up when questioned about the nature of the call.

In Roulette, the same phone scammers called twice yesterday. Please contact your elderly relatives and friends and let them know this is a scam. Yes these were automated calls instructing you to press 9 to lower your credit card rates. You would think with all the reporting across the state of this scam and the breaking of the do not call laws, that law enforcement would do something about this.

I have recieved three phone calls in the past two weeks in the Shinglehouse area. The safest thing to do is let everyone know and hang up.

They must be going through the phone book in order. I have two lines (regular and fax) and both ring at the same time. It is the "card services" people saying they will lower my interest rates. The # comes up 407-000-6543. They have called several times and I always hang up. This is a scam!!

I received a call at 12:44 PM this afternoon. The # was the same as prior posting. I just hung up.

My parents are older & live in Roulette, they received a call today but said it was an "automated" call; I assume this is not the same thing/scam?

I live in Port and I got calls from the same number mentioned above yesterday and today. They are definitely persistent! The first time I dialed back and actually got someone. When I started to question them they hung up on me. Every time I've tried to call back since it won't go through.

I received the same type call and immediately hung up and called and reported ilt to my credit card company and ask if they had contacted me. The credit card (Visa) Company said it was a scam and just to hang up on them but they did place a return call to that number, (which I gave them) while I was on the line with them. There was response to retuning this call and advised me it was a scam and that they did not call customers to lower their credit card raate.

I received the call yesterday from 407-000-6543. It was an automated message saying it was "Debbie" and she could "lower the interest on my credit cards" and to press 9 or stay on the line for more information. When you try to call back it blocks your call.

After doing an internet search on the number, it was confirmed that it was a scam.
