New Potter County Vets’ Affairs Director Reports For Duty

lennykalkoneLeonard “Lenny” Kalkbrenner Jr. of Genesee has assumed responsibilities as Potter County Director of Veterans Affairs. He is a U.S. Army veteran with more than 20 years of service, including tours of duty in Vietnam and Korea, and he served for many years as a military recruiter and recruitment supervisor.

Kalkbrenner (left), shown here discussing medical claim forms with Daniel Bothell of Wharton, said he is looking forward to serving the needs of Potter County veterans through regular hours at the Veterans Affairs Office in the F. W. Gunzburger County Office Building; through coordination with local veterans’ service organizations, the VA, Pa. CareerLink and the Governor’s Veterans Outreach and Assistance Office; and through hands-on communications with veterans and their families.

He will soon be participating in accreditation training through the Department of Veterans Affairs and will meet with veterans and their families during the April 22 Veterans Benefits and Information Fair at American Legion Post 192 in Coudersport.

A graduate of McKeesport Senior High School, Kalkbrenner studied economics at Columbia University and served for 21 years in the U.S. Army. He was awarded the Bronze Star and two Army Accommodation Medals for combat operations in Vietnam. Much of his career was devoted to recruitment operations in Pennsylvania and New Hampshire. The new director was also recognized on numerous occasions for his recruitment achievements.

He retired in 1988 as a first sergeant. He was store manager at Lush Brothers True Value in Galeton for approximately 12 years. He was also employed as a corrections officer at Somerset State Correction Facility, prior to returning to Potter County, where he was worked as a school bus driver in the Northern Potter School District and a laborer at Twin Tier Linen Service of Coudersport.

Kalkbrenner can be reached by phone at 814-274-8290, Ext.210, or by email at lkalkbrenner@pottercountypa.net. Potter County Today
