NORTH COUNTRY VOICES CHORAL CONCERT MAY 3

NORTH COUNTRY VOICES CHORAL CONCERT

By Gloria Richardson

The North Country Voices, an SATB Choral Ensemble will present its
annual Spring Choral Concert, Sunday May 3 @ 3PM at the Christian
Missionary and Alliance Church on Route 49 in Coudersport. This program
is entitled "For the Beauty of the Earth". A common theme of reflecting
upon the beauty of the world around us is woven throughout the program.

Compositions to be presented include “For the Beauty of the Earth” by
John Rutter, “Morning Has Broken” by Cat Stevens, “Over the Rainbow”
arranged by Teena Chinn, and “America the Beautiful” arranged by Darmon
Meader. In the song “The Heavens Are Telling” by Haydn, guest performers
are vocalists Carol Empson, Charles Cole and Tom Lamb . In the
composition “How Can You Buy the Sky?” by Rene Clausen , Jane and Arthur
Metzger will read the narration which is paraphrased from Chief Seattle.
The featured flute soloist will be Kim Updegraff.

As a backdrop for the entire program, the photography of Mr. Curt
Weinhold will be displayed on a wide screen behind the performers. These
pictures depict scenes from the PA Wilds and are representative of the
unspoiled wilderness of this area. A special musical interlude will be
provided by the group Simple Faith, a trio of three women who sing close
three part harmony gospel tunes and play several string instruments
including guitar, dulcimer.

The North Country Voices was organized to provide vocal musicians with
an opportunity to experience singing four part choral literature , to
develop their musical skills, and to enjoy the companionship of fellow
musicians. Members include: Anne Acker, Marcy Barnett, Ted Bear,
Brian Bradley, Alice Buchanan, Dustin Giffin, Tom Gordiner, Julie
Grossman, Debbie Haley, Bob Johnson, Jean-Marie Kauffman, Angela
Kellert, Joseph Kellert, Jack Krone, Byron McCleary, Kathy Mitchell,
Valery Robbins, John Sherer, Gretchen Songster, Linda Todd, Betty
Wallace, Lucinda Weakland, Rosemary Wells, and Martha Young. The piano
accompanist is Anne McCleary and the director is Gloria Richardson.

We invite everyone to welcome the season of Spring by sharing with us
this afternoon of uplifting song . A reception of light refreshments
will be provided after the program in the church hall. There will be a
free will offering and the proceeds will be used to support the
Coudersport Area Ministerium of Churches and the North Country Voices.
