Potter-Tioga Maple Festival This Weekend

From Potter County Visitors Blog

The 43rd Annual Potter-Tioga Maple Festival is May 1-2, 2009.

At the Maple Festival, you can stock up on all your locally-made maple products from delicious maple syrup to candy. Don't forget to abide by the unofficial requirement for every maple festival-goer which is - to make sure to get your maple milkshake, maple cotton candy, or maple ice cream.

In addition the Maple Festival features lots of great vendors, food, kiddie rides and a parade. Musical performances throughout the day add an upbeat feel to this lively festival held in historic downtown Coudersport.

Editor's note--We heard that they are having the Maple Festival again this year in Coudersport, but nobody sent us any information about it to post.

RE Editor's note: Doesn't Coudersport have a Maple Festival Celebration in the beginning of May every year?

Too bad because this is a great way to get the news. On the downside, I think they need to revamp the Festival. Same thing every year, they need to add a little something different. I like to go but is getting very same old thing. No, I do not volunteer to help and have no idea what could be changed, just my thoughts.

the Maple Festival is always a great time. However, it is always very frustrating when trying to watch the parade on Main Street, because of the parked cars that remain on the street. Signs are usually up that cars left along the street will be towed, but it never is enforced.
just my two pennies worth. . .

May be too spectacular this year... If you look at the banners posted at each end of town, there are only 2 sponsors this year, you would think that the chamber would take full advantage of any free promotion that they could get...

Correction to my post at "Wednesday, April 29, 2009 3:04:00 PM EDT"...

May NOT be too spectacular...

I hope for the vendors sakes, that I am wrong...

Unfortunately, I remember when the activities used to stretch from the corner by what is now Gauld's Corner Store all the way up through town and encompass the courthouse lawn (without kiddie rides)...

I know that I am dating myself here...

There used to be more activities and displays than vendors... What ever happened to the steam engine displays and the celebration that lasted from Friday until Sunday?

I guess just another story of that was the good old days...

Big surprise. The Chamber needs to either get some new ideas, new members or both. I realize that there are people who put in a lot of time and effort, but they keep doing the same thing over and over. How much good does it do the town when most of the vendors come in from out of town and take the money they earn with them when they leave? At least the Saturdays on the Square are mostly LOCAL vendors. Downtown Coudersport needs to stop whining and start investing some time and energy into making downtown look like a place someone would want to stop and spend some time in. Kudos to Walter for the flowers in front of the Crit and the Maple Tree. You'd think in an agricultural community, you might see better landscaping and more use of flowers and plants to make downtown look alive. Instead, I guess the town fathers are still looking for another Adelphia or more grant (aka government "bailout" money) to solve all their problems. For heaven's sake, take some pride, involve the talents you have here and start showing off what you have to offer.

Just from the anti's!

Maybe they can use the one they had on display at the court house for the public comment meeting last year.
Ya, that was a hoot! Ha
