Rendell Spends $50,000. Of Your Money To Help Save Philadelphia Bicycle Race

Rendell adds $50K to bicycle race

By Christopher K. Hepp
Inquirer Staff Writer

Gov. Rendell has stepped forward to try to save Philadelphia's annual professional bike race, announcing that the state would purchase $50,000 worth of VIP tickets to be distributed to state employees.

Chuck Ardo, a spokesman for the governor, said yesterday that the tickets would be distributed on a first-come basis. The state already contributes $200,000 to run the race.

Dave Chauner, cofounder of the TD Bank Philadelphia Cycling Championship, said that with the state's contribution, his group had raised more than $60,000 through ticket sales and donations since Tuesday, when The Inquirer reported that this year's race was in jeopardy of cancellation. That represents little more than 10 percent of the $500,000 budget gap organizers need to close. More...

Rendell cancelled the Governor's Schools of Excellence for the kids to go to Penn State after they had put all the work into the project. Makes one wonder where the rest of any stimulus $ has gone. These kids are going to be the ones paying back the stimulus money but not getting any of the benefits.

Ok, who voted this clown into office? What a flippin' waste of
money. I still can't believe he would do that!

It seems everywhere you look from small towns to big citys money is being wasted on the dumbest things. If just 1/2 the effort was put into creating jobs we would all be better off.Did you ever notice how money not earned is so easy to spend??(townships, boroughs, state & fed)All of them do it!!!

I think it is really funny when people get on here and blog about creating jobs. Obviously that person has no concept of reality. If you have seen the news, you would surely notice that more people are losing their jobs every day. Just let me eat a can of beans and I'll bend over and crap out some jobs for you!! Don't you realize that jobs aren't just "created"? There has to be a need and an industry to support the jobs first and we don't have that here and it is slowly dwindling down across the country. You can thank the pliticians and the unions for driving jobs and the economy down hill.

The point is that with such hard times the taxpayers money could be put to better use.

Just another sad example of Ed throwing more money at Philadelphia - Hey Ed...There are OTHER places in this state!!!

This isn't surprising....Rendell is a clown.

10:48 - Quit watching the news and do some research on the jobless numbers and come to some conclusions on your own. Last I looked we're at about 8 1/2% unemployment rate nationally....not really that bad. The media wants us all to think its bad so the liberal government, Rendell included, can save us all! The best thing we can all do is quit watching the news and come up with our own conclusions. Use your freedoms instead of being lead around by the hand by NBC, CBS, FOX and CNN. Balanced media is a thing of the past....watch Jim Leherer's news hour on PBS if you want to watch something.

So Mr.Realistic what you are telling us is that $50,000.00 couldn't (create)a job or two or at the least a few part time jobs for college kids in the summer????You with your superior wisdom obviously are the one with no concept of reality.

So...yes, the $50,000 would be fine to be able to pay for several jobs.....but you can't just pull jobs out of the thin air!!! If you are just creating jobs for no reason, just for the sake of creating the job to spend the money, then your thinking is just as bad as Rendells. If it was so easy to just create jobs with no reason, then this country wouldn't have an issue. You need to think about what you are ranting about. Do you have an idea for some jobs? If so...Mr/Mrs "superior wisdom"....why don't you propose them to someone so they can be made realistic? Come down off of your cloud and get into the "common sense" line....you will be better off.
