Tracie Writes About The Austin Dam Project

Thank you for all the support and interest in these projects.

This grant was issued to the Borough of Austin and will be managed by a newly formed committee 'The Austin Revitalization Committee'. This committee includes representatives from the Borough Council, The ADMA, The EO Austin Historical Society, The Austin Pride Committee, The Austin Area School, businesses, and other interested individuals. Please contact me if you or your group would like to be represented in this committee. (austindam@yahoo.com). We want a strong community based committee driving this project.

The planning grant will be used to bring the community's ideas together and perform the necessary feasibility, sustainability, economic development, environmental studies in order to plan the future of the Papermill Property, the Austin Memorial Dam Park and economic development in Austin. There will be many open meetings at which you can bring your ideas and opinions to the table.

This extensive planning process is necessary in order to open the door for additional funding for the project.

The Austin Dam Memorial Project is huge and we have grand ideas and practical needs and very simple tasks that we struggle with at times. We need more volunteers and we need more donations and we know everything is not perfect but with each step we improve. We are proud of our accomplishments, our member support, our volunteers, our donations, the various businesses and county and state agencies that have helped out at the park.

We welcome anybody with an opinion about the Austin Dam Memorial Park, or the Papermill property to email us at austindam@yahoo.com or attend our monthly meetings which are on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7:00 at the EO Austin Historical House.

Well said Tracie...and what a great job these folks have done!!

Anonymous said...

yes a great job indeed while the town slowly dies from the lack of jobs. where drugs are easier to get then a helping hand when you need it. its too bad you people don't put this much effort into helping get some industry here.i guess you don't know if you create jobs and clean up the streets good things will follow. maybe if that was done you would see how much you would get in return . maybe someone help get the dam to the point you want it.not just someones own personal taj mahal . look at what happened to the last one that did that.the lynchmob got him didn't they.

Anonymous said...

The people in charge of these so called projects don't need jobs so why worry about anyone else.Just keep sending your donations!!

Great job by Tracie and gang at the ADMA. If the BioBlitzers do discover a new species I think it should be named after the mighty dildine and after the great volunteers of ADMA. Perhaps "dildinus admanus"?

Unfortunately I suppose the poster from 11AM has valid points regarding drugs & cleaning the town. But regarding industry...very difficult to attract a real business to Potter County especially now.
You might note that the town of Wellsboro is doing quite well on tourism already this year according to a shop owner. Wellsboro has little industry but lots of shops for the tourist. The Dam project may be Austin's & one of Potter County's more significant attractions if properly done. Ya gott'a do what works.

Then get off your butt and do it yourself if you have such good ideas. Just like these good people.

The borough council of Austin should be trying to get grants for cleaning up the town first. You can go on any street in Austin including main and see that.Empty fallen down houses.unmaintained houses, houses that look like dumps, scrap yards, ect.Maybe the new committee should take a ride around and open there eyes.

Anonymous said...

To Poster 1:28 PM

If they cleaned up the empty fallen down houses, unmaintained houses, houses that look like dumps, scrap yards, ect what would be left? Everything you just described is the town. I guess next you will want them to get ride of all the beer drinking wife beating rednecks.

Yes, i love how everybody run down austin. But we are the only town with the history as big as ours, we are the only town that has so much pride that we will take time to defend our town when asses like you blog about them.

Anonymous said...

you want us to email you so you our identity while you keep some information from the public. would be interesting to see whos on these committees and if their private businesses have benefitted directly from their involvement in these committees . the day of write a check to me should come to a stop

Anonymous said...

as Tracie or someone else stated, maybe it was Andrea from the Board. Go to the meeting...find out who is involved and what is going on. These accusations and bashing Austin is pretty crazy and certainly doesn't help anyone. All this group deserves commendation.

Anonymous said...

Wow, I would never believe how many jealous people are out in blog land. Possibly Austin may prosper from the Dam Poject, they sure have the guts to try. Now if some of you jealous ones are from Coudy, Port or where ever, it is definitely jealousy, no chance of you all coming up with a plan, you spend too much time hoping for a knight to ride in and save you. Those cheesie little festivals in the square aren't working either.

Anonymous said...

Yes, I think its very clear if you have reason to question the activity there are a variety of ways to get those answers, they seem open to any scruitny, making additional comments just shows your just interested in starting trouble, not true concern for Austin or the limited dollars used.

As for the project in general, if you would like the group to look into alternate uses for the property get to a meeting, becuase no one takes seriously anon. comments.

As for un-intended use of the park by the kids, etc. I don't believe that comment holds water, because before the dam was accessable kids were partying in East Fork, Ridge Road, Stuart's field for decades. They will always find a place, can't put that one on the park, sorry.

Like I said above(and many others) , get involved if you want anyone to take your idea seriously.

Anonymous said...

The road, the building and damshow, was already up and going when the current group of people took over.So what other than putting up donation boxes in the so called park have they done ?? other than make grand plans ?? The town doesn't prosper(and i don't think i would say much about cheesie festivals in other towns Austin has them to) !!!

Somewhere in this discussion should be some appreciation for the ADMA and EO Austin folks. Don't be such a dildine in always finding fault.

Anonymous said...

Keep up the great job Tracie and don't let a few negative blogs bother you or your efforts!! The dam is better than it ever was before you took over.. No one can honestly say it hasn't improved in the last few years. The dam show gets better every year and it's great you welcome the input of others!! Good luck, your hard work is appreciated.

I check this website several times a day and I enjoy it. However, I see every time there is an article about Austin people come out in droves to put MY town down. I have lived in Austin my entire life and I would not want to live anywhere else. It is a shame what people feel the need to write. In my opinion it is stereotyping and very disrespectful. Every town has there issues and Austin is not an exception..but I read a lot of articles about domestic disputes, serving minors alcohol, DUI arrests etc. in many other towns other than Austin. As far as the comment about tearing down the houses, I personally live in a very nice area where everything is neat and orderly. We have a few that need attention...but don't make it out that our whole town is like that. The redneck comments, the quotes from the Water Boy are stupid and biased. So think before you speak and sound like an idiot.

jealous of what exactly ? what do you have ? i'll tell you what you have 3 bars 2 stores 1 gas station and few picnic tables in the weeds you call a park. what do i have? 2 parks a swimming pool a library a bowling alley a movie theater 3 bars 4 gas stations 2 grocery stores a micd's foxs and it goes on and on .yeah i'm really jealous of you and all that you have. maybe you should get off the bar stool and help your community

i wonder what would happen if osha or maybe labor and industry came to the dam park and started lookin around ?and seen how unsafe it is . i wonder if someone got hurt . what would happen? i always thought something that was unsafe and was standing verticaly had to be fenced off ? something like 1 and half times as high as it stands .hhhhmmm i wonder.

10:21 when was the last time you looked around ??? some houses need attention ?? almost every street in austin has houses on it that need to be condemed. As far as every town having issues Austin's statistics (dui, overdoses, car crashes, abuse, ect.)are out of control!!!please get a clue!!10:23 you forgot beer dist.game room/hangout.

Anonymous said...

my bad 10:50 you also have the damn show or as some locals say the **** ******* ball that has no police protection but then again we have our cheesey festivals on the court house square which i happen to like. the one thing austin has is the firework display which rivals galetons now. still i'm not jealous

The 10:23 poster and the 10:50 poster haha is all i can say. 10:23 Coudy isn't much better so you should take your own advice. 10:50 prove the statistics are higher in Austin than anywhere else. Coudy doesn't have drugs, DUI's, abuse, supposed sexual assaults etc.?? How about Emporium, Galeton, Ulysses etc. And is your town in perfect condition without any houses falling down?? If you answer there are not you are lying. Every place has them. And there are not houses on every street in Austin falling down and need to be condemned. There are nice houses and nice people. So get over yourself and your righteous attitude.

Anonymous said...

i was responding to the jealous poster who seems to think evryone is jealous of austin which is a joke never once did i say coudy was better or didn't have problems did i? and if you want to compare the stats i'll prove you wrong there too.remember a small town with a big problem means a higher statistic a bigger town with not as big aproblem has a smaller statistic.here i thought you were smarter than a fifth grader.nuff said

As a life long resident of Austin, i would have to say it is a great town with pride and passion. There is NO other town out there that has as much heart as we do. We never wish badly upon somebody and our town is always there to help in one way or another. Yes we may be lacking some bowling alleys, and other stores.

But with a population with 500 in town and over 1000 with in the district how in the hell are we suppose to get these other stores. Let me just tell you, if it was not because of Austin being the way we are, YOU as in YOUR TOWN may not have what you have. Yes i know you stuff may not close or maybe still be in good standing but we spend our money in your town every day.

FYI on the dam show and no police, I take it the under covers are really working because you have not noticed.

I knew when I saw the Article about the Dam that Mrs. Gordnier wrote, opened the door wide open for the bickering back and forth...

Nothing anyone says is going to change the fact that Coudy and Austin dont get a long. No way no how..

The only thing I wish would happen is that they cut the ties totally. NO back an forth sports programs. you play for your own town or you dont play at all.

that is what causes all this bickering. your kids cant play against each other and dislike them, and then the next sport you want them to be on the same teams.. give me a break... you people talking back an forth are the result of this sports problem.

as far as the Dam. I dont think ANY GRANTS should be given out to anything or anyone when our country is in the shape it is in.

Anonymous said...

Like i said open your eyes!! There are 3 ways into town rt 872 or rt607 empty falling apart houses/trailers greet you on your way in.When you get to main st. whats left of that isn't much better.People with an attitude such as your's is why Austin is in such bad shape!! (Prove the statistics)Read the news,Listen to the radio,Read the court reports,Talk to someone that has been in the ambulance or fire co. for a long time. They will lose count of the terrible things they have seen.

There are no nice houses in Austin maybe a few nice people but no nice houses. As for the genius poster that said I have lived in Austin all my life and don't want to move that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. I mean all you know is some dumpy ass town and have no options or marketable skill set to move anywhere else so of course you have tricked yourself into believing you actually love this god forsaken town. If you said I have lived several places and I still love Austin the best then fine your still an idiot but at least your decision to stay there was actually based on something. I am surprised you can even afford a computer to post on this blog. I all see in your town is a drag on society a bunch of welfare queens.

Anonymous said...

So, did anyone go to the meeting and uncover the big scandal?

Anonymous said...

99 percent of the people in Coudersport and the people in Austin get along with each other just fine. The 1 percent of the people who blab on about rivaleries or jealousies are just a bunch of dildines who don't have anything better to talk about.

Anonymous said...

Austin and Coudersport did not get along maybe years ago. But if you look at the new generation you will not find that. Austin and Coudy has had a great relationship in all aspects of life, including sports. Yes as a former baseball player of coudy i felt not in place when i first started, but the town did as well. Why should a player from another town start over my son. But when it came down to it, I was excepted into that town an so has every player that has played for Coudy Football and Baseball. Not one austin player has ever went to coudy that i know of and sat the bench, Austin and Coudy have always gotten along since i can remember. Again if your the one saying that the sports need to be cut i bet you that your son didn't start due to an Austin Player coming in and starting. O and just incase somebody post on her WHO, here is the list.

Kevin Gledhill, Kris Gledhill, Kyle Gledhill, Kyle Dynda, Matt Valenti, Kirk Duffee (Before Moving). Nate Burgett, Joe Burgett, Pat Valenti, Jer Sasla, Bob Swank, Alex Ebbert, And i know there are a few more.

All these people made a difference on the team but this is not the point.

Point is Austin/Coudy well AC Connection will always be together, Look at the alle-catt team in austin and you will see.

Poster 11:07

What is your point?

Anonymous said...

Are you kidding me this is about wasting taxpayer money not baseball or football !!!dumb ass

Anonymous said...

To the 9:49 poster...life is what you make of it, obviously there are a number of folks in Austin who are trying to make their community a better place and bless their hearts for it. Nice homes don't make a community, people make a community, regardless of their income or social status. Welfare is a problem that plagues our entire country, not just Austin. This community did not benefit from Adelphia buying all the ramshackle homes and buildings as Coudersport did (imagine how Coudy might look had that not happened)...Let's thank people for their efforts and stop throwing stones, it's simply not productive.

Anonymous said...

About the baseball/football issue, no it is not a point somebody is arguing that Austin and Coudy have personal problems with each other and we dont. They stated we should cut all ties with both towns that is why i said it.

Anonymous said...

9:49:00 AM...It is my comment that you are referring to and you are a very disrespectful individual. I am not an idiot I am far from it. I can afford my computer, my newly built home, my cars, my toys just fine. I am a college graduate and I have a very good job, and I take great offense to your comment and your attitude. My husband as well is educated and has a good job. I like Austin period and I have that right. You can call the people here what you want and call our town what you want...but every town has the drags on society or welfare queens as you so nicely labeled it...every place has them there are no exceptions.

Thank you for trying to make area's better. But

right now people are tired of tax payer money being wasted. when people don't have jobs, or are loosing there homes, they dont want to hear about making tourist area's better. but some organization will take the money and spend it any way, so it is a no win conversation.

I don't think it is has anything to do with Austin. Look at the 5 million dollar grant the lumber museum got. what a waste of more money when people are out of jobs.

This is why we are in debt up to our ears. the Govt. needs to quit giving out these grants right now.

People are trying to come up with house payments, or grocery money, NOT GRANTS for tourist areas.

I am sure everyone is thankful for the time Tracie and everyone else puts in to the Dam, weather the areas are Austin, Coudy, Port or where ever.

This is just not the right time to be doing it.

Just my opinion!

Very interesting. How about
the Corey's playing Legion
baseball for Coudy and the
Coudy golf team in 1992 that
was all Austin. I think the
Dam Assn should take a lot of
pride in what they have accomplished. Go Austin and Coudy.

Yes i do understand that people get mad about these grants that get put out. But if your going to take away grants you can kiss a lot of items good bye. Do you want to take away the money given to fire and ambulance organizations??? Austin and Coudy both in the last few yrs has brought in over 500,000 dollars in grants?? Do you really want to shut down grants?
