I hope you have a better WCO than Officer Heiner. That is who Austin, Costello and Wharton are stuck with. He believes in put and take stocking only. Bridges and easy access areas. Walk in only area's will not get a bucket.

Yeah I agree, what happened to the float stocking program and the kids (with acceptable grades)being able to get out of school for stocking.Anyone with information on this subject please let us know.

I wish that all of the "Stockers" that watch the fish being dumped into the river will be considerate this year and not block the roads so that other "Non-Stockers" can get through with there more important lives.

Anonymous said...

How can your life be more important? You obviously don't work if you are out driving around between 10am and 2PM on weekdays.

Did you not read the post that they will be stocking on SATURDAY!! It was SATURDAY last year that I had to wait for the idiots parked half way in the road and standing in the middle of the road, just to watch buckets of fish being dumped in the water, so that cars could not pass!! I think the sport of fishing is to catch native fish!!

Officer Heiner is doing a good job. If nobody shows up to help, than he has to stock the entire truck by himself. I don't know if any of you have ever helped, but those buckets get awful heavy after awhile. Besides, stock trout are meant to be for put and take.

What a crock. If nobody shows up to help stock, then why the traffic problem? Plenty show up to stock. Including me. I show up to carry buckets into the Kettle FFO area to no avail. The WCO directs the truck to the bridge at the lower end and they end up dumping them all in one spot.

Most streams are stocked during the week. The river is different for whatever reason. The WCO does not stock anything but bridges and places where the stream is right next to the road. Browns and Brookies are not put and take as they reproduce every year in our streams. The fake rainbows and goldens are here to catch the flatlanders attention and serve no other purpose. These streams should not be considered put and take and unfortunetly that is the view of our WCO. Conservation officer, I think not. They already kicked Heiner out of Pike County so they stuck him in Potter where nobody would pay attention. Well some of us are paying attention and his view of this area's fisheries needs to change.

Wow!!!
How nice of you people to notice things. First they are stocking the Allegany Saturday, stay off Rte 449, Rte 6 and the side roads along the Allegany Saturday and you won’t have a heart burn.
Bridges and some areas are just for you that don’t have time to walk as you is too busy complaining.
The FFO on the Kettle is something; seems the only place you know how to fish is off the Bridge there. Too many nuts standing on the banks looking for all those none invisible Wild Trout that are suppose to be there.
Don’t be saying non true statements about the WCO; you are just causing him to chuckle.

I wish the WCO would go to www.huntingpa.com and see the 90 post forum dedicated to how bad of a job he is doing.

I've been fishing the Kettle FFO since it was first introduced. Can't say I've ever seen anyone fishing off the bridge there. I think you are full of bull poop. 'Nuff said.

uhhh... some people work nite shifts, so maybe they can be out riding around betweent he hrs of 10am-2pm. duhhh....

I think you people are all a bunch of pathetic whiners. With all of the economic issues, you people ought to be grateful that they are stocking anything....sheesh...talk about taking things for granted. Oh..by the way....due to state cutbacks they are only able to stock the front 2/3rds of each fish. Have fun!!!!!

We buy fishing licenses to pay for these fish to be stocked and to pay for people like WCO Heiner to do their job. Locally, we aren't getting what we pay for.

Anonymous said...

Right on to the above poster. Last year I was at beechwood fishing and the stock truck came down to stock, there was 6 wardens with them and the only thing they did was beg people to help stock.

Anonymous said...

to the person that thinks Officer Heiner is doing such a great job??? Could that possibly be Heiner himself cause noboby else seems to think he is. If he would just try to work with the landowners a little bit or listen with an open ear and an open mind instead of thinking he is the only one that knows anything or that because he has the emblem on his shoulder he is God well guess what Heiner He gave you the perfect name..and it isn't God.

I wish he would read the above post but he is more than likely stocking all the bridges and easy access areas along the Allegany right now for the flatlanders.

Same old same old. It sounds like this PFBC WCO is just thumbing his nose at the folks that pay the bills. Just like the PGC.

No anonymous here! I've heard all of the complaints, and as past President of the First Fork Fly Fisher's, who actually paid for the first printng of "walk in only signs, and float stocked with volunteers--the entire First Fork, I'll throw my dog in this fight.
But I need your help. I need names, incidents, and any and all details.

You go Dave. On behalf of the counties sportsman, thanks for stepping up and taking an interest in this bad situation.

Be careful Dave how you go about this. It looks like a case of not getting a fish in my back pocket deal. No, I’m not a WCO or truck follower. Just read about the complaints of the traffic, times have changed to where you can’t be blocking the roads, like back in your hay day.
It’s nice to float, but last I knew they were still teaching the fish how to swim. Besides stocking this way will help protect those wild trout you like to write about so much.
Don’t want to see you opening up that can of worms you carry!

Dave Wolf said...

Thanks for the warning. I realize that when you step into a fray you can wade into some mighty deep stuff. I've already been in touch with some of the individuals and as you said firmly believe in wild trout.
I've fought many times to NOT have trout stocked in areas that have natural reproduction. But there is also an educational process that should not allow all stockies to be stocked at bridges. When we floated the Fork and put in browns I followed them into late fall-I do release all of those I catch.
I promise to remain fair and open-minded on the subject, but I get a little upset, "when history teaches us that history teaches us nothing.
Have a great day!
Dave

The head of the North Central region is now planning to meet with the concerned individuals in the area. He is going to view the areas that aren't being stocked and see if something can be done to make "most" people happy.

Talked with our Fish Commissioner for Potter County, William (Bill) Sabatose, about the complaints He related that he has not received any complaints about this subject and is willing to look into it, but needs correspondence of any information. One would need to give their name and means of contacting the correspondent. All would be kept confidential. He is willing to come up for a meeting if needed to help resolve the problems.
He will need facts; not hear say, so be truthful about things the best you can. If you folks truly want to have this resolved, this is the only way to go. Bill will treat you all fairly.
Bill has given the ok to list his contact information.
His address is;

You ended your rant with 'Nuff Said"...

I take offense to this... I did not post this, or any other comment on this thread... I don't fish nor do I monitor the stocking... Therefore, I would have no reason to post on such a topic...

If your going to make a comment and don't feel like using your name, at least use an original handle...

Anonymous said...

We are actually meeting with Mr Burger of the PFBC to discuss this. I have no idea who Bill Sabatose is but the head of the North Central region is Mr Burger.

"If your going to make a comment and don't feel like using your name, at least use an original handle..."

I didn't use your handle nor did I lay claim in my "rant" to imply that it came from you. Get over yourself. 'Nuff said.

'Nuff Said said...

Please allow me to quote...

"I've been fishing the Kettle FFO since it was first introduced. Can't say I've ever seen anyone fishing off the bridge there. I think you are full of bull poop. 'Nuff said."

I think that your words speak for themselves...

I don't need to get over myself, I was just making a statement of fact...

I don't appreciate your mindless rantings being associated with my mindless rantings (yes, I stated that as I wanted it to be)...

These comments are merely our thoughts and confusions put out for the world to view, ponder and scoff at... Please allow the world to scoff at my lunacy without your assistance...

"I don't appreciate your mindless rantings being associated with my mindless rantings (yes, I stated that as I wanted it to be)..."

My words aren't mindless rants. What you call your words is your perogative. But to be truthful about it, if I were you, I'd raise up that chin of yours, and get some help with that obvious inferiority complex. 'Nuff said.

'Nuff Said said...

My chin is always raised high... I find it makes a better target for idiots like you to swing at... If I cannot poke fun at myself and find the humor in it, then I would have no right doing the same to you... And yes, I found your comments to be exactly as I called them... It is my opinion and I am welcome to it...

You two should get a room at the crit and get it over with.

With a lot of hard work and the will to take on a number of tasks, the ball is now rolling, hopefully in the right direction.

Resolving this issue will take time, but I do have confidence an high hopes that it will be.

Dave, seeing you have decided to jump into this problem, would you mind explaining to everyone why the Fish Commission has over a MILLION less Trout to stock and whom and what groups were involved in bringing this about? Maybe these folks would really like to understand how that came about.

Anonymous said...

The bag limit is now 5 fish. Most people practice catch and release so the extra million fish isn't really missed that much. From what I remember of it, a hatchery had to shut down due to fish poop poluting the water.
