Zito Has Plans In Williamsport/Canton Area

Franchise OK’d in Canton Twp.

The Daily Review

During their meeting this week, Canton Township supervisors renewed a franchise with Retel T.V. Cable Co. for 10 years. The franchise will be transferred to an affiliate of Zito Media, based in Coudersport, Pa., when it completes the purchase of Retel.

Zito Media plans to run fiber optic cable along Route 14 from Williamsport, Pa., to Canton and then be able to provide high-speed Internet access, digital voice service, digital television and high-definition TV to the residents in the Canton, Ralston, Pa., and Cogan Station, Pa., areas. Zito Media hopes to have these services available in nine to 15 months, Colin Higgin, vice president with Zito Media, said.

The area between Gold and Ulysses has LONG been without services from either Adelphia or Zito. It is sad that Zito can go far away from Potter Co., when we have been longtime supporters of this company and their family, to provide service but leave their own no choice except dial-up internet service, satellite TV, etc. etc. etc.

I'm with Zito Media. the reception is fair at best.
fix the reception issues you've been ignoring, before you let others experience the same.

I agree! I HAD zitomedia for 1 1/2 years. I had phone, internet, and tv. The internet isn't too bad. The tv wasn't clear. The phone forget it. I lost phone service every day. They would come out to "fix it" and leave. The next day no phone again. I fought with them for a year and a half. I finally gave up and went to verizon. Zitomedia should really focus on fixing their existing service before they expand. One can only imagine what the service will be like when that happens.

I don't think Zito can run cable between Gold-Ulysses. It might be Time Warner's area.

I'm quitting Zitomedia this weekend and going with Direct TV. I loathe having to put a satellite on my roof, however, the absolute abysmal service from Zito has driven me to make the change. On Zito, HD channels disappear for days at a time, channels freeze up or pixilate. Does anyone out there agree with me???

It would be nice if they would complete their build out in the Milport and Clara areas before they move on to other projects. For three years now they keep saying soon.

AMEN to post 10:54!!!!

what ever happened to just playing checkers?

I have Zito at work and Hi Def Direct TV at home. Although I would like to support Zito at home, Direct Tv wins- hands down.

That is interesting they are going that far from Potter County when there are places here that don't have service. For what they are chargeing, the service is terrible. Internet service ok, cable ok but the phone service is the WORST I've ever had, works sometimes if you are not disconnected in the middle of a conversation. When I call and ask if anyone else has complained: "oh no - you are the first" yea right

Anonymous said...

Again you have to look further into this then on the cover. Yes i do agree that zito needs to fix some of what they offer. But THEY CANNOT ALSO GO INTO THE TERRITORY OF SOMEBODY ELSE.

Maybe they are getting Federal Grants to expand, OUCH

As a former Adelphia employee.. I agree about the horrible service. I have been having digital issues for months now and they just cant seem to fix the issue.. I am gettng really tired of not having the service that we pay out the nose for.. They really should fix the issues HERE first before expanding. Having more customers means nothing if your core areas are disconnecting at an alarming rate and going to dish or direct tv!!! Wake up Zito!!!

Switch to DirecTV, you'll love the HD channels and also the service. Go with the $7 a month maint. contract though, it will save you a bunch if you need service sometime.

I think the Internet service is excellent that Zito offers. I don't currently have the TV service. When I did it was fine. Some of the broadcast networks weren't crystal clear, but my guess is that was notnecessarily a Zito issue...had the same issue when it was Adelphia. I don't have any experience with their telephony product. Anyway, I wish the best to Zito. We need all of the local employers we can get.

#1 if you're on a sparsely populated road, can the cable company make $s building out to you? it's a business; they're in it to make $s.

#2 they have to have the franchise. if your municipality already has a franchise w/ another company it generally doesn't make any sense for another cable company to come in.

I wish Zito the best with these newly acquired systems. If I could have Zito cable at home I certainly would. I would rather support the local economy than folks out in Colorado.

Well...this is absolutely not true....according to the Telecom Act of 1996 and free competition laws, the cable companies can not monopolize an area.

They can legally overbuild another cable system, but it's economically crazy for a company to do so, especially in such a low populated and arguably not the most affluent area.

If folks in Ulysses are not crazy about their cable service they could communicate to the regional higher-ups at Time Warner (if that's the cable company) that should sell the cable system to another operator if they're not going to invest in it and get them the services they want.

As long as it's making money, TWC probably won't want to sell it unless the price is really right for them.

Just my thoughts, Dillius.

If it's so great why do you need a $7 a month maintenance contract? $84 a year adds up.

The satellite companies suck! I don't know why anyone would want to switch to Dish or DirecTV.

Anonymous said...

Umm i think DILDINE works for zito he knows all.

We were having clarity issues with our lower channels and disappearing HD channels. Zito came out to the area last week and everything is GREAT now. We never have phone issues and our internet is rock solid. I think they just need to tackle an area a week and get us all to that point. It's great to support a local company that hires local people!

Anonymous said...

Go James and Michael!!Make sure you make the proper political contributions this time and keep up on the local service issues and you'll do just fine!! Brad

I agree with the 9:19 post and don't think that Dillius works for Zito. The Dildines are a strange bunch. I think Dillius is a nephew of Donald and when Donald was let go from Adelphia he said the Dildines were getting out of the cable TV industry. The dark hills provide a lot of options, but he said cable tv wasn't one of them.

Anonymous said...

I'm a Dildine and I take offense to you calling us a strange bunch! I'm a cousin of Dillius and yes Grandpa Donald, not Uncle, said the Dark Hills are not a place to be workin in the cable biz, but he said if there's still a cable company operating here we shouldn't turn it down if they wanted to hire us.

Anyway, after that piece of family history is clear. Zito does a heck of a good job. I would choose them over Dish or DirecTv anyday!

Wake up people. The Rigas family only cares about themselves. Did they ever thank all the people that supported them? No

Anonymous said...

Maybe they overlooked you, the rest of us got a personal note from Michael with a nice thank you.

Anonymous said...

Verizon is half way to Gold from Ulysses and will come the rest of the way with Internet and cable TV if enough request it. Just do a petition and meet a certain small percentage of homes and they will do it.

Anonymous said...

Check out this web site as to how to go about getting Verizon service in your area. (bfrr.aggregator.com) it’s not 50, but a percentage.

"Maybe they overlooked you, the rest of us got a personal note from Michael with a nice thank you."

I think they overlooked a lot of people that weren't in their inner circle regardless of how long you worked for them. Nobody I know got one and I know a lot of people that worked there for a long time.

That was in 1996 you idiot

I think Colin should personally climb the poles and fix my cable tv reception.

Anonymous said...

I also recieved a thank you letter from the Rigas' and know a lot of people that also got one.Go Zito! Brad
