Chester H. Morley, 94, of Gold, PA

Chester H. Morley, 94, of Gold, PA, died Friday, May 29, 2009 in the home where he was born.

Born August 24, 1914, in Allegany Township, PA, he was the son of Seth W. and Mary Williams Morley. On September 25, 1935 in Whitesville, NY, he married the former Betsey E. Young, his wife of over 70 years, who predeceased him on December 20, 2005.

He owned and operated a farm and was a member of the Gold Church. He was a gravedigger for 54 years, digging 5000 graves in 70 cemeteries.

Surviving are: five daughters, Jeannette Buck of Gold, Peg (Jon) Parshall of Athens, PA, Jane Daniels, Kathy Soule, and Cindy Chick, all of Gold; a son, Daniel (Nancy) Morley of Gold; 19 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Marguerite Wolfe of Pickerington, OH; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two grandsons, Evan Buck and Christopher Daniels; two sons-in-law, Bud Daniels and Bob Buck; a sister, Marie Truax; and a brother, James Morley.

Friends may call Sunday, May 31, 2009 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 PM at the Olney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ulysses, PA. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday in the Gold Church. Pastor Frank Mickle will officiate. Burial will be in Raymond Cemetery, Allegany Twp.

Chester was a fine man and a good neighbor.
Very friendly person to talk with and helpful if he could be.
He will be missed by all who knew him.
Our thoughts are with his family at this time.

Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the Morley family. I've known them all my entire life and always admired them for their dedication to family and community. Chet was an inspiration to many and will be missed.
