Lois C. Corey, 85, Coudersport, PA

Lois C. Corey, 85, of Coudersport, PA died Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport.

Born on February 19, 1924 in Coudersport, she was the daughter of Mark and Clara Bachman Chilson. On January 21, 1945 in Coudersport, she married Edwin I. Corey who survives.

Mrs. Corey was a graduate of Coudersport High School. She was employed with Bell Telephone from 1942 – 1963 having been one of the original phone operators in Coudersport. She was later employed with the Potter County Motor Club from 1964 until her retirement in 1989.

Mrs. Corey was a member and strong supporter of Park United Methodist Church where she served on the Administrative Council and sang in the choir. She was a member and past worthy matron of Eulalia Chapter 148 Order of Eastern Star. She had served as District Deputy for the Pennsylvania Order of Eastern Star. She was also a former member of the cast and choir for the Passion Play and sang with the former Coudersport Community Chorus. After her retirement she enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports. She was a baseball fan and was proud to watch her grandson pitch for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Surviving in addition to her husband are her son, Ed Corey of Austin, PA, three grandchildren, Mark Corey of Nashville, TN, Matt Corey of Delray Beach, FL, and Marty Close and her husband, Arick, of Bradford, PA, two great-grandchildren, Garrett Meyers and Mason Close of Bradford, PA, two brothers, Hal Chilson and his wife, Laura, of Camarillo, CA, and Larry Chilson and his wife, Robin, of Williamsport, PA, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Roger Chilson, and her daughter-in-law, Mary Anne Corey.

Friends may call from 6-9pm Friday, May 8, 2009 at the Fickinger Funeral Home, Coudersport. Funeral and committal services will be held at 11:00am Saturday at Park United Methodist Church with her pastor, Reverend Scott Ogden, officiating. Burial will be in Sweden Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Park United Methodist Church, 15 E. Third Street, Coudersport, PA 16915.

RIP--Lois. She had a great smile. I loved going into the AAA office and getting maps and guide books from her. My thoughts go out to her friends and family.
