Rachel E. (Welsh) Stepankow, 94, Formerly Port Allegany, PA

PORT ALLEGANY- Rachel E. (Welsh) Stepankow, 94, formerly of Laurel Lane, died Monday (May 25, 2009) in South Carolina.

Born April 20, 1915, in Couder-sport, PA, she was a daughter of Clyde and Anna C. Butz. On June 15, 1941, in Coudersport, PA, she married Robert J. Welsh, who died Sept. 28, 1975. On April 22, 1978, in Harmonsburg, PA, she married Walter Stepankow, who survives.

Rachel was a member of Ebinezar Methodist Church, Longs, SC.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Walter to various parts of the country. She worked several years at Pierce Glass Co., Port Allegany, as a receptionist-switch board operator, before retiring.

Surviving in addition to her husband, Walter, of Little River, SC, are a daughter, Barbara (Don) Bova of Meadville, PA; two stepsons, Tom (Chris) Stepankow of Erie, PA, Walter (Terri) Stepankow of Valparasion, IN; a granddaughter, Andrea (Jeff) Newell of Meadville, PA, a grandson, Chris (Melissa) Bova of Conneautville, PA; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Robert, a grandson, Dennis J. Bova, two brothers, and two sisters.

A memorial service was held in the Ebinezar Methodist Church, Longs,

SC. Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park, Lafayette.

Local arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.
