Rep. Causer Provides Information On ANF Hearing

State House Policy Committee Hearing on ANF Oil, Gas Development Available Online
Recognizing that the recently proposed settlement between the United States Forest Service and a coalition of environmental groups will have a negative effect on both the local economy and private property rights, the House Republican Policy Committee last week held a public hearing on the subject in Warren.

View The Hearing

While representatives of the Allegheny National Forest Reserve declined our invitation to testify due to the ongoing litigation, we heard from several employers whose oil and gas businesses would be affected by the change in policy, and from county leaders concerned about the impact on our local economy.
Under the proposed settlement, the Forest Service would agree to apply the National Environmental Policy Act to any proposed developments in the forest, an action that could delay projects for months or even years.

Our region’s natural resources are vital to our economic success, and private property rights are among the most basic rights we enjoy as Americans. I will continue to work with both state and federal lawmakers to right this wrong.

It is sad that we constantly have to devolve environmental discussions to one of $$$.

I'm not ignorant to the financial shock waves, however, perhaps the other side of the argument should be fielded. Protection and conservation of our natural resources.

Potter County is God's Country, but it will not be if we allow rampant and unobstructed consumption of our land and it's resources. No amount of money we put in our wallets can change that fact.

Fairness Asks: Why shouldn't the commonwealth of PA. Impose emanate domain and take back the ANF Land??

There are some things I admire about Representative Causer. But he is clearly beholden to the timber and oil/gas industries.
Just review or watch his voting record.
These industries are important to us and they merit our support, but not such pandering and championing as they receive from Rep. Causer.

Representative Causer is "clearly beholden" to the timber and oil/gas industries." That is a fair and true statement.
Who else is Representative Causer beholden to? Interesting that he has had no competition?

You are missing the point. The mineral rights do not and never have belonged to the commonwealth or the federal gov.The right to extract gas and oil from leases that have been bought and paid for are no different there than anywhere else. The tree huggers are trying to control something they do not own again.Agreements that were made with them didn't even have all the partys involved at the table. It is not up to the Forest Service or the ANFR to determine anything. They are bound to the "Law Of The Land" the same as anyone else.If these groups want to control the mineral rights they should have purchased them!!!

I agree with you 100%

Timber is big in Potter County, get over it, he should be beholdin to us!
If you do not like the job he has done, run against him in the next election.

I think Marty had done one hell of a good job all around not just on this matter!
