Strike Called By Penelec Union Workers

WESB NEWS--Penelec Workers on Strike

Penelec workers are on strike. The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 459, which represents workers, says Penelec has made a profit over the past three years and their workers deserve to share in the wealth.

Workers voted Thursday night in a secret ballot to strike. Penelec is a part of Ohio’s First Energy Corporation.

I bet what they really want is a piece of the hughe profit pie coming next year for the power companies.

Fairness Says: Penelec could also use some of the profits they have made over the past 3 years to up date their equipment in McKean County to lower the outages in the area. (That is sure not likely to happen any day soon.) I'm sure the top brass will receive their bonus.

this is exactly why the country is in such a mess as it is....these idiots should just feel lucky that they have a job in the first place.

lucky to have a job? you as customers are should feel so lucky to have a group on oganized men who are willing to risk their lives to keep the lights on. think about it without lineman to keep the lines up nothing in our world works. how many times in your life have you gone out in the middle of the night and grabed live wires with 8000 volts surging through to get someone elses house back in power while everyone else huddels inside???? ungrateful donkey!!!!!

"ungrateful donkey", now that is mature of you!

Grateful? We all pay for the electric we use PLUS for the use of the lines and wires PLUS the transportation fees to transfer the power, PLUS a monthly customer charge...ya I guess we should be bowing at your feet!

With the economy the way it is I would say a strike is not the most appropriate thing to do right now!

Be thankful your company has not closed it's doors yet like so many others have!

Ever been out in the middle of the night in a thunder storm with the power out and see these guys working to restore your power, with lighting flashing and rain pouring down? Hell yes they deserve a raise!

I have a back up generator now, too may outages over the years from my electric company...and soon a wind turbine as well!

Take a look at the post...they don't want a raise..they want part of the companies profits. If every company in America had to share all of their profits with all of their employees, where would the incentive be to own a business if you had to give away all of your profits? The Penelec workers need to just take their paychecks and go humbly into the night. There is no need for a strike in this time of economic struggle.

REPLACE THEM WITH PEOPLE WHO WANT TO WORK!!!

The actual issue is not simply a money according to a striking union member I know. Its a safety issue and a common sense issue as well. The company wants the linemen to be on call for so many days 24 hours a day without paying them unless they actually get called out. How many of us would want to be tied into waiting around for a telephone call to go to work with no guarantee that they can bring a paycheck week to week. Take a look at your utility bill the next time, chances are there is a set fee just to be connected, why can't worker expect the same consideration.
