Thanks Corporal! What would Potter County do with out Jake?

Anonymous said...

He must be the new kid on the block trying to make a name for him self.......

Anonymous said...

How else do you think they get up the ladder??

Anonymous said...

Doug Hensel finally got a DUI! I didn't know he drank!

Anonymous said...

How about he is doing his job enforcing the law. He couldn't make a so called "name for himself" if the roads weren't crawling with drunks behind the wheel. When will people stop drinking and driving?
Keep it up Corporal Rothermel!

doug, do you think your son will be your probation officer. maby he can keep a closer eye on you.it's about time

Anonymous said...

LOL. Crazy that the 5:50 poster is asking whether or not his son will be his probation officer....

insane, both of them should have been busted looong ago. everyone knows it.

Anonymous said...

Are you seriously mocking a police officer catching people that are DUI? Seriously? Seriously?

Anonymous said...

First of all, if you get a DUI then good! I don't care what officer does the arrest as long as they get the drunks off the road. Already one family member killed by a drunk driver so no sympathy from me. Now, as far as talking stupid about the ones that got DUI, I don't agree with it. Let the courts take care of it and keep your dumbness to yourself.

They should get a bonus for every drunken potential killer taken off the road.

Thank you officer, keep up the good work

We need this cop in the Austin area.He would be busy 24/7.

I haven't lived in Coudy for at least 2 years, and Cpl. Rothermel was on the force for a few years while I was living there. He is one of the most fair state troopers. Don't slam on the cops, they are there to do a job, obey the law people, don't drink and drive, its that simple. Keep up the good work Cp. Rothermel!!

We need more of this in the Austn area. Vehicles and motorcycles!!! Thanks for the good work and keep it up.

I see no reason why anyone would complain about removing drunken drivers from our streets... There are too many options available for those that are drinking to avoid this and potentially fatal accidents... They can get a ride from a non-intoxicated friend, they cannot drink to the point of intoxication or I know for a fact that at least one local establishment that has DD's that offer to take not only the person home, but they usually get their vehicle home for them too at no cost (other than maybe a small tip) to the person... There have been too many losses of lives, both drunks and innocent victims alike... Think about it, if your get pulled over and you are not drunk, the most it causes is an inconvenience for a few minutes... If you are drunk, then you deserve to be punished... The PSP are only doing their job, and do not deserve one ounce of grief for doing so...
I believe that the only ones that are complaining are the ones that are guilty of breaking the law and putting their own life, as well as others, at risk by doing so...

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK CORPORAL AND ALL OF THE OTHER TROOPERS....

Anonymous said...

You will find that 99% of the time the ones that complain are the ones driving drunk.Believe me this has become the (norm)in the Austin area.

Anonymous said...

I don't condone drunk drivers by any means, but do you realize that ONE beer can put you over the legal limit therefore resulting in you possibly getting a DUI? So, although I'm sure many people have more than one who are arrested for DUI, how many of you complaining have had ONE or TWO drinks then driven home because you know you aren't "drunk"? Well, according to a blood test, you would be. So, just something to think about.

Anonymous said...

10:13, ONE beer can put you at a .08? That must be one big ass beer!

Look up the facts, one beer won't put you over the limit. Check out madd.org for some good info DUI.

Anonymous said...

Absolutely send him to Austin, great job Corporal!!!!!! We need more officers like you to send a message out to these drunk drivers. If you came to Austin you would be busy non stop for weeks with DUI arrests. Great job!!!!!

Sunrise Ridge Road!!
Almost sounds sort of like they were there for a reason. Must be a half dozen or so homes there! They should be patrolling the main roads where more damage could result from drunk drivers. At worst on sunrise you could hit a tree or land in a ditch or a front yard, not a head on. Then again, I guess with all the crack houses and prostitution running rampant in that neighborhood, it should be heavily patrolled!!!! Personally, I'd be more concerned about the main roadways.
A Non Drinker

Great job Corporal, I have small children and to know that you are out there doing something, now to bad you didn't catch the ones that are in the probation department who are just as bad, no one should be above the law, no matter what position you have, but seem to think so and abuse that position, they know who they are and there day of drinking and driving will come and I pray that an officer such as the Corporal is the one to get you instead of a coroner, I do not wish that on no one. Think before you get behind that wheel after having a few drinks, of the other people whos lives you are putting in jeapordy.

It is sad that comments on here refer in particular to one family and one individual. The gentleman who has been an educator, basketball coach and friend to many does not deserve to be personally singled out on this site nor does his son who serves in an important capacity for the court system I would assume.
He evidently made a mistake on Sunday and perhaps had too many beverages in his system and made the poor decision to operate a motor vehicle under those circumstances. There is no way to excuse that behavior.
I personally have never once sipped even an ounce of alcohol but I will say that this is a very personal issue and considering the fact that nobody was hurt or killed I think it is harsh to single out or unduly target this gentleman for what he would probably admit was a very, very poor decision.
Again there is no defense of his actions but thank God no one was injured or killed and I do know that many of my friends have been guilty of the same offense many many times but have somehow dodged the bullet.
Some who are reading this would probably admit that yes they have driven a car when their blood alcohol level was higher than the .08 percent.
Please show some consideration for this family. I know this family and I understand the tough health problems and other issues. I think people here really do have some compassion and understanding but sometimes it does not shine through.
I would agree that the police deserve the dildines and the kudoses or whatever they are called for doing what they had to do and I am very opposed to DUI, but I also feel compassion for this family and any others who face this situation.
And I thank and respect this individual for the positive influence he has had any many peoples lives including his own family.
I am sure you who are in the family or care about the family know what I am talking about.
So the dildines and the kudoses are understandable but I hope this message also hits home with people who have open minds and read this.
God bless this family and all others confronted with these complex issues.

Oh bullshit!!!
No cough meds or anything like that huh?

Coudersport needs the PSP more then Austin does. Just drive around on a Friday or Saturday night from one end of town to the other.

9:57, you're an idiot!! shut up!!

Self righteous people suck!

Jim,
I feel that the comments that you have let on this site not just this article but others(L.L. Baseball) need to be looked at better before they are posted. This site is starting to become a joke like the enterprise.

I'm not sure what this DUI in Coudy has anything to do with Austin, but come to Austin you will seen alot of the people that are in the bars drinking are not from Austin. The ones drinking here from the surrounding areas try to find all the back ways home so they don't get caught.

Anonymous said...

90 % are from the austin area and are drunk on a daily basis.

Anonymous said...

It's great that Austin is the only town around with drunk drivers. It makes me feel much safer in Coudersport where no one is out drinking and driving.

Anonymous said...

Ok....Corporal Rothermel has been at the Coudy barracks for over 10 years. He has pulled me over before, so I know. He is far from a young punk trying to make a name. Doug Hensel has been a DUI waiting to happen. Regardless of whether or not Sunrise Ridge Road is busy or not, the fact remains that you don't drive ANYWHERE drunk. I don't wish a DUI on anyone. I certainly don't wish a mother's child to be killed by a drunk driver either. Fortunately, that isn't the case here. perhaps Doug will take some of the education he has taught over the years and apply it to himself. I'm sure he was upset if a student disobeyed the rules in his class. I'm sure he reprimanded said students as well. I'm sure if a basketball player was lat to practice, he made said player run. No, I don't wish Doug bad luck. Just sobriety.

Complex issues my tuckus said...

why do people candy coat it, as in making a bad decision or a poor choice.

Talk to a family member that has has had an innocent family member killed or maimed by one of the irresponsible creatures.

It's not a contest of how much good a person has done vs the offence.

They need to be taken off of the road.

It might seem harsh to single out one person, but that is the price you pay for the decisions you make.

A little public shame might keep my family safe on the roads for a little while at least...

We have had several DUI arrests since this sight has been up and running and I have never seen so much controversy as over one person. Keep the names out of your comments. There were others listed also, I believe 3. Why are you all singling out one person?

Anonymous said...

to answer your question 1:09 Coudersport is a town that is inhabited by self righteous do gooder types that are always willing to call out their neighbor.

Coudersport used to be a great place to live, now there is no sense of community. I see people trashing Austin on here, Coudy could learn a thing or 2 from Austin, like a sense of community and civic pride. People there genuinely care about each other.

To call out Doug is wrong, he obviously made a mistake and he will pay for it. I guarantee the folks on here that are being self righteous have driven drunk or have a family member who has. I can personally name over 100 people in Coudersport who have driven while impaired and several are your top citizens, Doctors, Lawyers, JUDGES, Pharmacists, Preachers, Local cops, state troopers, Teachers, Hospital Administrators, Executives and Politicians.

Anonymous said...

Aren't you doing the same exact thing you just said is wrong..."calling people out"?

Anonymous said...

I agree people shouldn't be called out on here and the lecturing person crossed the line in doing so.

ANNA said...

How in the heck did Austin get dragged into this conversation anyway.? Potter County in all are full of very good people and community support. Stop ditzing each other.

ditto on 4:02 PM, stop d'ssin each other

Keep it up Corp. You kick ass! Now if you can get Justice from the DA's office to follow through with the prosecution. Thankfully, it appears that there will be a new DA in town.

Anonymous said...

Heh, T good one, Justice from the DA's office? What the prob, did she throw out some of his cases for lack of evidence or Malicious Arrest? heh, typical Coudy Quota hound...

Anonymous said...

9:38 & 10:49 looks like you boys finally got the conversation going the right way!!! my vote goes for the DA that can make the "Corp." play by the rules???

Anonymous said...

Are you suggesting that Corp Rothermal was the police officer not playing by the rules ? The one that the current DA had a problem with? How interesting

Anonymous said...

Very interesting...."Justice for all!"

Anonymous said...

Not everyone realizes that cops don't have to play by the rules.

Anonymous said...

It's a good thing that there is an anonymous option so that people can speak their mind as long as they don't have to put their name next to it.

Anonymous said...

Cops DO have to play by the rules! One (or two) just don't! All for the sake of "ego"? Not right, really not right!

"T" said...

Maybe the name Potter County should be changed to Hazard County... from the comments these posters are having.
If you want the well being of the citizens of Potter County, you should clone CPL Rothermel 10 times and have them all stationed at Coudersport. He's an awesome cop, ALWAYS plays by the rules. Remember it's not the Troopers that make up these rules (laws) it's the people in Harrisburg, the Troopers just follow them.
Some of these comments just show the lack of education people have.

Anonymous said...

Hey "T", get you facts straight!! You can give all the praise you want....I wonder why??? Don't lecture on who makes the rules...everyone knows that, but don't preach that all Troopers follow the rules. Liar, Liar!!!

Anonymous said...

This is the most corrupt county around. Starting from the top down.

Anonymous said...

Mr. "T"-YOU got this ball rolling! Call a spade a SPADE. If you want to bring up the DA not following through with your Cpl's arrest's be educated enough to know why, and to know that the general public know's why!

David Hensel said...

Whether you are talking about my Dad, the state trooper, the DA, or your neighbor in good old Austin, PA, nothing you people say on here means anything if you don't have the guts to put your name behind it. It's just a bunch of nonsense from a bunch of pathetic, spineless, gossiping fools. If you really believed in what you said and felt like you really could stand behind what you were saying, you would sign your name to it. There's nothing wrong with having an opinion, but you have to be able to claim it as your own and back it up in the way that you live your own life. Otherwise, you're just a self righteous, gutless worm with no shame.
