Weekend Activities At Cherry Springs State Park

Cherry Springs State Park

Evening Programs
Saturday May 30, 2009

7:00 pm Evening Bird Watch
Whether you consider yourself avid birder or a beginner, watching birds perform their
evening routines can be a relaxing and enjoyable activity. Our park naturalist will give
you a brief introduction to the hobby of birding plus show you a few skills you can use to
identify birds. Afterwards, join the naturalist for a short walk to watch and identify some
birds that make their homes in the park. Bring binoculars if you have a pair; they are a
great tool for birding. Meet the naturalist at the amphitheater near the pavilion.

9:30 pm Night Skies Program-Count Craters on the Moon
Get an up-close glimpse of our nearest galactic neighbor. We’ll use a map to explore the
lunar landscape and identify some of the features that are visible on the first quarter
Moon. We’ll focus on some of the craters that are most distinctive along the line
between light and dark, and try to find some of the “craterlets” near them. We will use
the light of the Moon to demonstrate its phases and also to understand how it affects
human night vision.

Visitors should park their cars in the parking lot on the North side of the park, and follow
the lighted walkway to the meeting area.
