Passport Now Required For Travel Out Of Country

Prothonotary Reports Tighter Passport Regulations

By Rebekah Pepper, Summer Intern for Potter County Comissioners

Potter County Today

Stricter border regulations between the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean are now in effect.

Potter County Prothonotary Amy Moshier points out that a driver’s license or birth certificate is no longer sufficient to cross the U.S./Canadian border.

A passport, or passport card, is now required. Passport cards are wallet-size and serve as proof of citizenship. They are not sufficient for air travel, only travel by land and sea.

passportIndividuals can apply for a passport card just as they would apply for a passport. Applicants must provide a birth certificate, driver’s license, two approved passport photos, completed application and payment. For anyone age 16 and under, signatures of both parents or legal guardians are required. Prothonotary Moshier advises those who are planning to leave the country to contact her office or refer to a website, http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738_2.html.

Let me get this straight ...

If I'm a U.S. citizen, I need a passport if I want to leave and return.....

But if I'm Mexican .....

Can anyone tell me why, if you have had a DUI in the past, why you can not go to Canada?

The Canadians do not want any trouble in their country! If our country were that strict or stricter ~maybe just maybe there would not be so many problems in this great country of ours!

That was my first thought when I read this too!

We have to have "proof" to get back in to our own country AS LEGAL CITIZENS! Ya, that does not surpise me one bit!
