Rendell--Income Tax Hike Would Only Last 3 Years

Rendell says income-tax hike would be temporary

STEELTON, Pa. - Gov. Rendell said yesterday that if he had to resort to pushing for a hike in the state's personal-income tax, he would want the increase to end after three years.

But he was cagey when pressed to give details, saying only that such an increase was "a serious" proposal to help deal with a projected deficit of up to $3.2 billion in the state budget for the next fiscal year.

Rendell said he was waiting for the most up-to-date projection of next year's growth in state tax revenue before making a final decision.

"But if, in fact, we have to raise taxes of any sort, it would be sunset," Rendell told reporters at a news conference in an old steel town near the capital. "And the reason we would need to do it for a short period of time is because of the recession."

He did say he would propose that any income-tax increase be reversed in 2012. More....

I am in favor of an increase in the state income tax. So many of our county services are facing partial to complete cuts in this proposed budget. The only way to make up the difference is to increase our property taxes. So once again homeowners will be asked to foot the bill for services that should be provided by the state. Although we may not like it, let's face it, most of us will not find an increase in state tax by 1 or 2% to be nearly as difficult as the property taxes or county taxes that would otherwise be imposed. Somewhere, somehow, taxes WILL be increased. A minimal state increase seems like the lesser of two evils.

But don't even think of imposing any taxes on the Marcellus Shale drillers or they will take their marbles and go home.

CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE What we ALL voted for and will end up when we hand over or are forced to hand over our money. (unless you're on welfare, then you'll hand over the taxpayers money).

Remember - once a tax is put on it never gets removed!! Bring your budget into the amount of revenue you have to spend.

Fixed income people can not afford another cent of tax! We must live within our means so why doesn't the state?

I have never seen a temporary tax. Isn't the tax on booze still there as a temporary tax to help out the Johnstown flood victims? As far as the Marcellus Shale drillers.....Those guys are really tearing up township roads with their water tankers. Take a drive up Reed Run Road. I sure hope they have large enough bonds on the roads to fix them when they are done.

Rendell just can't stop spending! He puts to shame drunken sailors spending on shore leave. He's a spendaholic druggie who can't wean himself off the taxpayer's money; nor can he comprehend the term living within one's means. Does anyone out there know the count of cronies Rendell has hired since he put the "hiring freeze" into effect?

Where have we heard this before?

When the cost of registrations was raised many years ago, that was to be lowered as well...we are still waiting!

It is never lowered because they find "new" things to spend it on and then next thing ya know there is a need to raise fees and taxes again!

Remove all the appointed positions Rendell...then we will talk! Spend within the amount you have to work with, how is that for CHANGE?
