7th Human Services Employee Laid Off

Belt-Tightening Continues At Potter County Human Services

Human Services Administrator Jim Kockler (left) presented an update on his agency’s worsening financial situation, due to delays in state funding, during this week’s county management team meeting at the Gunzburger Building. The Potter County Commissioners initiated the monthly sessions earlier this year to improve communications among county departments and gather input on policies and initiatives. Kockler said a seventh staffer will be furloughed at week’s end, as part of an incremental effort to reduce expenses as Human Services adjusts to the lack of a state budget. With state funds covering upwards of 90 percent of the agency’s budget, the impact of the impasse in Harrisburg is worsening each day, the administrator added.

“Unfortunately, we’re going to see some reduction in services,” Kockler said, citing the Medical Assistance Transportation Program as an example.

“If there is any positive side to a crisis like this, it is the fact that it makes you very carefully re-evaluate your options,” he added. “Because of this analysis, we have determined that, at least in certain areas, we may have been a bit overstaffed.” Potter County Today

"Because of this analysis, we have determined that, at least in certain areas, we may have been a bit overstaffed"...over staffed means wasted tax dollars! Several people being paid to do the work of one?

Cutting back on the transportation program..perfect solution so people won't be able to have transportation to their much needed appointments.. Maybe this will be a good wake up call to better budget in the future. my heart goes out to the people affected by this
