Carol Edwin Strang, 85, Eldred, PA

ELDRED, PA - Carol Edwin Strang, 85, of Slack Hollow Road died of natural causes on Monday (Aug.10, 2009) at his home.

Born June 21, 1924, in Byron, Ill., he was a son of Francis M. and Sarah C. Thatcher Strang. On Jan. 6, 1945, in the parsonage of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Farmers Valley, he married Marjorie E. Brown, who survives.

Mr. Strang was a 1941 graduate of Port Allegany High School and had lived in Slack Hollow since 1957. He was employed as a custodian at the Eldred Township Elementary School until retiring in 1989.

He was also employed by the township and was an Eldred Township supervisor.
Mr. Strang was a founding member and past secretary and was very active with the Eldred Township Volunteer Fire Department since 1962. He was a member of the Eldred Township Fire Police and McKean County Fire Police Association.

He had played bass guitar with Happy, Ed and the Gang. In later years, he enjoyed playing guitar at local nursing homes and senior centers. He loved playing and listening to country music, enjoyed fixing vacuum tube radios and talking on the citizens band radio.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, Robert F. (Janet) Strang of Silver Spring, Md.; a daughter, Donna M. (Jack) Ratzel of Eldred; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Judith A. Strang Madison, on Jan. 23, 2005.

Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred, where funeral and committal services will be held Thursday (Aug. 13, 2009) at 11 a.m. The Rev. Glenn Hamilton, pastor of the Cyclone Free Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Grimes Cemetery, Port Allegany.
